Los Tostadores Amanda, Andres, and Luis are the best around. Located in a wonderful storefront, they'll happily sell you your morning coffee (or twice daily, in my case). The shop itself is fun, classy, and has a great vibe going on. But as soon as you look around, you notice these guys are serious about their product. Multiple magazines about the coffee industry line the book shelves. You get the feeling that Luis and his crew are passionate about their craft. In the back is the coffee roaster, which is modest in size but is a well-built (and beautiful) piece of machinery.
Now to the coffee. I'll start with this disclaimer: I'm a bit of an addict to coffee. My time in new cities revolves around the coffee they produce. Puerto Viejo Tostadores is without a doubt one of the better shops I've stepped foot into.
My friend and I stumbled in one morning with no idea what to expect. She had the espresso, and I a cappuccino. Simple enough order. We walked outside, had a seat on their patio. What came out changed my life. The espresso, perfectly steamed, had a delicate and delicious crema on top that lasted the duration of the shot. The espresso itself was wonderful. The Chiapas beans used give it an exceptionally floral taste that rolled on the tongue long after the first sip. The richness of the espresso was bold and immediate and paired as a great base for those upper florals.
The cappuccino I ordered brought a delight to my senses as I smelled the Mexican canela sprinkled on the foam. The milk was steamed perfectly, and everything was in balance. The espresso sang through with every sip, and was not masked by the milk. This was the best cup of anything I've ever put in my mouth. So I drank it twice a day for four days.
The only bad thing about this place is that I live so far away from it. But soon they'll be shipping beans! I love these guys- do yourselves a favor...
Read moreWe bought coffee from here about 6mos ago while walking our dog on the Malecón and it tasted so smooth & delicious that I wanted to make it at home! But when I had asked them if they had coffee beans available for purchase they said no. Maybe they didn’t have any then but I understood it as they didn’t ever.
Fast forward 6mos and I received a bag of ground coffee as a gift from this cafe, I just wish I knew which variety it is ! 😂 Regardless, happy to know they DO have bags for sale & I’ll definitely be heading down to the old port to buy beans...
Read moreThis is where you will find the best freshly roasted coffee beans in Puerto Peñasco. They have three varieties from the rich, strong Pirate bean, a medium roast and a light roast. Coffee is well-packaged and they will grind the beans to your specific request. The place isn't as enjoyable though since covid. You can no longer go inside so no more lovely gift...
