Went here after reading many reviews claiming amazing nachos, service etc. and unfortunately cannot disagree more! We ordered empanadas (which never arrived) and veggie nachos, as well as two beers. A few of the items listed under cervezas are actually beer ‘accompaniments’, which the waiter told us when we tried to order them, and suggested we try the (not on the menu but twice as expensive as the other beers) Yucatan lager instead. Fine. The waiter still brings us the accompaniments though I assumed we had decided to swap, which turn out to be pretty unpleasant. Mine was essentially a very salty virgin Bloody Mary + beer, my partners an indistinguishable blend of juice and spices, neither of which we got more than a 1/4 of the way through. The veggie nachos were hugely disappointing and very at odds with any other Mexican food we’ve had. They are loaded with all sorts of random vegetables including shredded cabbage, carrot and tinned pineapples, and tasted like a cheesy Chinese stir fry. The only saving grace was that the roof terrace was quite pleasant and the host who greeted us was very friendly, but otherwise not a great experience at all and feel disappointed that other tourists would consider this credible...
Read moreVery nice on the inside, beautifully decorated and has large paintings and murals on the walls. After we were seated our server turned on the ceiling fans and an oscillating floor fan. Despite the heat and being ope aired it was very comfortable.
Our server Rosa took very good care of us and made great recommendations. My wife has the stuffed chicken breast and I had the Arrachera plate. To start we had the cauliflower appetizer and the sauce that comes with it paired well with the grilled and charred cauliflower.
The chicken breast had a pesto made with Chaya and was very good. It came with a salad that had some sort of marinated pears. We liked the dressing very much.
The Arrachera was cooked perfectly and was tender with some char. It came with a salsa that complimented the charred meat flavors. I just wish it had a side of beans or anything else really..
I tried the margarita made with xtabentun which was fantastic, I definitely recommend. The house cocktail Balam was also good and has a frozen piece of mango on a stick on top, great flavor with the smokey mezcal.
Cool spot and they definitely take pride in both their...
Read moreI want to start off by saying service was not an issue. Had the Kibil and it tasted like unseasoned falafel with sparse, flavorless sauce. My cocktail was great and came in a cool glass. Latte and cappucino were average but good. Ordered the Cochinita Pibil and Chirmole Ribs, was very let down by both. I've been here a while and have ordered Pibil in many different styles. The pork tasted like unflavored, dry tuna. The pickled onions were of no saving grace as they tasted like they hadn't been pickled at all, providing no contrast to the pork. The tortillas seemed not only store bought but microwaved with the edges cracking dry. Chirmole ribs were alright but other than being steamed or boiled, the mixed vegetable side had no flavor also no green beans on top as stated. Paying the bill was anything but a breeze as the card machines weren't working outside for our poor server. Mosquitos outside were so bad we had to wait for payment inside. This place has potential but seems as if management is lacking funds necessary to either buy quality food or keep quality...
