Anahata Café & Brunch — Restaurant in Yucatán

Our first time in el Cuyo and we're trying out the dining options. Wanted to end our early morning walk on the beach with a espresso drink and breakfast. Fortunately this bistro opened at 7:30, vs the other option up the street at 8. Very cool vibe in the open air, sandy floor dining area. Very laid back and not in a hurry. Good cappuccino. Pleasant music in the background to enhance the scene. Fair prices for US standards, but not "cheap" for local food. (we had $1 street tacos that were excellent near the church, for example of what I consider 'local prices'). Our breakfast was $370 pesos tip included. $22 US. Took a while but again, not the type of place for you to be in a hurry. I would give it 4 or 5 stars for atmosphere, flavor and presentation, but our omelets and side potatoes were served 'cold' (room temp). I asked them to heat them up in the microwave and they were taken back with a smile. 5 minutes or so later they were returned and mine was the exact same temperature. The flavor was fine.

Again, I really wanted to like this place but the food is the main thing I need in a restaurant. Note to your cook: Omelets need to be served hot and if they're sent back for more heat, that's your chance to save the dining experience for your customer.

I would like to clarify that we were not on the phone so that explanation is confusing, regardless if we were. . I mentioned the potatoes because those will typically stay hot longer than other food types. They were room temp, just like the omelets. I have lived part-time in Mexico for over 15 years in the state of Sonora, so I'm familiar with price differences, especially in "tourist zones". This review is for other travelers from the states who may be looking for inexpensive options. This is a nice place and the prices reflect the location and atmosphere. The heart of El Cuyo, that is what Anahata means to me. For my first visit to El Cuyo (2021/2022) I spent a full month in this magical beach town, and a breakfast at Anahata is how I started most of my days. Whether it be the delicious egg dishes, fresh pastries, owner Gustavo's infectious energy and top-tier Espressos, his wife Xelha's charming presence and sunshine smile or their dog Hazel's calm and jolly presence... everything about this place made me feel at home right away. Great little breakfast restaurant in El Cuyo. We went in the middle of October and on this day it was a little cool and low in humidity, so the outside seating was great and the vibe was excellent. The service was quick and friendly, as Gustavo brought us a fan to keep us comfortable and brought out each drink and dish with obvious attention to detail. The food was quite good, and you could tell it was very fresh with quality ingredients, we just found it just a little bit lacking in flavor, for our taste - but that was just for us.
