I've been a loyal customer of this restaurant in El Cuyo for years, always enjoying the food and atmosphere, but last night’s experience was nothing short of disappointing. El Cuyo is currently experiencing a severe mosquito epidemic, and the restaurant seemed woefully unprepared. With only two oscillating fans, we were swarmed within minutes of sitting down, forcing us to retreat to our car.
We called from the car to place a to-go order, only to be met with a series of frustrating restrictions. We were informed that we could only order pizza, as pasta and lasagna were not available for takeout due to "policy." we were also told they were not allowed to bring it out to us and we would have to come back in to pick it up. We were just outside waiting in the car. Another policy… Hungry and with limited options, we ordered two pizzas: a pepperoni and a spicy salami with mushrooms. We were told it would take 30 minutes, but it ended up taking 70 minutes, during which we received no updates. When we called after 40 minutes, we were assured it would be just 15 more minutes. By the one-hour mark, we called again and we were offered the option to cancel if we weren’t happy waiting, which was absurd considering we were already invested in waiting.
When we finally received our pizzas, they were incredibly disappointing. The dough was dry and flavorless, with scant toppings—just 10 pepperoni slices on an 8-slice pizza, and barely any mushrooms on the other. To make matters worse, when we asked for chili flakes or spicy oil, we were told that it was against the restaurant's "rules and policies."
It's clear that guest experience is no longer a priority here. While I understand that the mosquito situation is beyond their control, simple accommodations like more fans or citronella candles could have made a world of difference. And as for the food, the quality has taken a sharp decline, and the inflexibility of the staff only added to the frustration.
This was a restaurant I once loved, but after this experience, I’m not sure I’ll be returning. It's disheartening to see such a decline in service and quality, especially during the slow season when you’d expect more...
Read moreSuch an incredible dining experience! The service was fantastic. They are dog friendly as well.
My husband and I came here and got two orders of the tomato bruschetta, a pasta dish, a pizza, and two juices. The total bill was less than $20 USD, which is mind blowing.
The bruschetta was soooooooo good! They were able to accommodate our vegan diet by leaving the cheese off of everything.
5 stars to the staff! Everyone (minus one lady who seemed to be cranky with the world (she wasn’t working in the restaurant, but she seemed to be an owner)) was fabulous!! They were so on top of everything and extremely attentive of our needs.
I hope to come...
