Mowgli — Restaurant in Yucatán

Almost never post google reviews but am compelled to by just how fab this place is. A real tucked away gem a few blocks away from the busier part of el Cuyo, combining a very cool vibe in presentation with family style hosting and service. The food - which comes as a two part menu, based on the available ingredients and catch of the day - is stunning. All cooked over a wood fired grill, flavours are perfectly balanced and feel like elevated local dishes.

It’s BYOB - we got 7 beers for less than 200 pesos from the corner shop over the road. They kept the beers in the fridge for us to have them cold throughout dinner and there is no corkage fee!

We were also celebrating and they really made us feel celebrated - whilst the food and vibe was excellent, the service is what tipped it into truly memorable for us. Clear passion from our host for the menu and the craft and the ingredients, and also for making sure we enjoyed ourselves ! Honestly such a gorgeous and special experience and only sad we are leaving tomorrow so...

They do not tell you that they only accept cash because they don’t have the proper set up yet and they make it very hard to get a reservation to attract customers looking for something exclusive and high quality but when you get there it’s a scam it’s haphazardly set up in someone’s backyard and they overcharge for mediocre food and the Belgian guy presumable the owner laughed at us for not having cash on hand and was extremely rude. We are so happy to have found Mowgli— the entire experience was perfect!

The atmosphere, the food, and the service was incredible. Everything was so fresh and each dish was creative and delicious. We had the tiradito, the octopus, the picanha, and the fish, and fresh watermelon juice (2 people). We were too full for dessert but it sounded amazing.
