Off the Vine El Cuyo — Restaurant in Yucatán

DO NOT DRINK AT THIS PLACE THEY SPIKED MY GFS DRINK WITH A SEDATIVE. I’m honestly shocked and still can’t believe something like this could happen in such a lovely place like el cuyo.

My girlfriend and i were relaxing at our place when she suddenly told me she wanted a carajillo from the off the vine restaurant. She figured since it was late afternoon and it was at walking distance from our place she could have a quick one and be on her way back. thank god in the end she changed her mind and told the waitress she would order it to-go so she could drink it and finish it back at our place. When she arrived back at our place she went directly to bed and laid down on her stomach. I initially didn’t gave it any thought or attention cause we’ve been kitesurfing all day and we were both tired. But after an hour i noticed she didn’t move at all and when i checked on her she was barely responsive. She was confused , Nauseous, feeling “slow” , wondering how much time she had been laying down all this time. This lasted several hours till midnight and the following morning she felt extremely hangover. Keep in mind this was the only form of alcohol she had in that entire day. I’m extremely positive a glass of liquor 43 mixed with coffee does not cause this. I’ve been to el cuyo several times and this is the first instance of experiencing a weird situation like this. I even shared this with my local el cuyo friends and they were confused as well telling me this was the first time they’ve ever heard a story like this. So please be safe and avoid this place...

London prices in a Mexican fishing village = not okay! We had 5 glasses of wine and a beer and it was £50 with tip. I spend that in my local in London ( a city which is famed for being expensive) and I don’t think it should be equivalent pricing in El Cuyo. It’s a great spot, staff are lovely but completely at odds pricing wise with surrounding restaurants (for drinks anyway, we didn’t eat...

I was there yesterday and it was recommended by some friends that were here 2 weeks ago. The restaurant is small and beautifully decorated. I had the shrimp Burger with Fries and 2 additional homemade and spicy sauces (chimichurri & habanero mayo) as well as a Maracuya margarita.
