This place has a very calm and nice atmosphere. The terrace is beautiful and truly enjoyable.
The service of my evening started well. Caretaking, friendly and attentive waiter.
I ordered the steak tartare and a truffled chicken pasta. Before ordering I specifically asked whether the truffles are fresh (even though unlikely), the waiter asked the chef and confirmed to me that fresh truffles would be sliced on top and that it is not truffle aroma/butter/oil mixed with the sauce. Something that is unexpected but definitely suitable for a restaurant in this setting/atmosphere.
The beef tartare was very spicy - don’t get me wrong I love spicy food but a classic dish like this served with plenty of unprocessed mustard seeds and additional spice added just changes a delicate dish to something it is not supposed to be. Eatable but not enjoyable.
The pasta was overcooked to the extend that every Italien would turn in his grave. Of course the sliced truffles turned out to be Champignons and on top of it all I found a dead fly in my food.
On the positive side the manager apologised personally and did not charge me for the abomination of a truffle pasta and offered a desert on the house.
All in all not a regrettable visit but be sure to stick to what this restaurant knows best, which is meat from a grill.
I certainly appreciate how the issue had been handled but don’t let yourselves be fooled by the ambience, the chef will never make it in Europe‘s kitchens.
To add, the place was not very busy during my visit on a Thursday but filled quickly after 7pm. My waiter changed and was not seen after the...
Read moreMy experience could have been better if not for the unfathomably rude maitre d, if that's who she was. When I arrived I asked her where the main restaurant was and she pointed vaguely and dismissively, forcing me to clarify after which she snapped, "can't you see where my finger is pointing?", at which point a very polite man offered to walk me there. I was pretty much ready to leave but I was waiting for my date. The food was ok, skimpy on the vegetarian/vegan options though which was a let down. Our waiter was very polite and attentive. After dinner, my date and I were waiting for our dial-a-cab. We were freezing so naturally we wanted to wait near one of the heaters. The same ridiculously rude lady barked at us that we couldn't do that, that we should wait outside the restaurant for our cab to arrive. At this point, I'd had it and I politely enough told her that we were entitled to be warm while we waited. Her service is shocking and as long as she is there I unfortunately will never go back to this place or recommend it to anyone. Maybe she was having a bad day but when you work in hospitality you have to put that aside and serve. I would know, I work in...
Read moreDisappointed, I love the stellenbosch and make it a point to visit every time I am in Windhoek, and every time I have visited I have had an amazing experience. However the new menu lacks sophistication the pulled pork burger was a disappointment being incredibly sweet almost like eating sugar and the bun was very stale, a chef at an establishment like this must uphold standards and should not allow food to leave the kitchen if it does not meet standards. The waitress never introduced herself and was not informed on the basics of the food and wine being served. The wait time between being seated and given a menu was way too long. And the time between been given a menu and requesting our order was also long. I find it sad to see one of my favorite restaurants deteriorate to such a lack luster establishment. I hope that the next time I return the standard dining will have returned to the high standards that it once had. The ambiance...
