How It Started

Politely greeted when we walked in. We sat down and chose our drinks. The menu is completely outdated as there were several items on the menu that they “no longer have.” What’s the purpose of having a menu when the majority of the items I asked for weren’t available?!?

That was frustrating. What made it worse was that the young lady who waited on our table, Hope, started getting an attitude and seemed inattentive as we finally decided on the options that were available.

That made me want to leave, however, my king said that it would be rude to leave since we ordered (UNTOUCHED) drinks and food.

I asked Hope how long it would take for the food to come and was informed that there were 4 other orders in front of us and the server didn’t know how long those would take.

The Food

We ordered stir fried chicken with vegetables (N$108), sweet & sour pork (N$108), a regular portion of beef fried rice (N$70), and two passion fruit with lemonade drinks (N$25 x 2). I chose the passion fruit lemonade drinks because at the last restaurant we went to, I ordered it and the drink was really good and refreshing. But today? They brought it out like this: [SEE PHOTO]

Unfortunately, it wasn’t already mixed and was disappointing to see. The taste was even more of a disappointment.

The food didn’t actually take more than about 12-15 minutes. Maybe even less, so that was a bonus.

The sweet and sour pork was okay. The sauce was a bit too thin and watery, however the fried pork was pretty good.

The stir fried chicken with vegetables was perfect! As I took my first bite, I was happy that there was at least something that turned out right!

The rice came out much later than the rest of the food but it was really good and a large quantity. There were big chunks of beef that made it feel like a meal on its own.

I will admit that Hope had a much better attitude as she came back to check on us, but still…I think she may have been having a bad day.

The Location

Yang Tze Chinese Restaurant is located on Sam Nujoma Rd which isn’t too far from Independence Ave which is where we stay.

The man at the front entrance was courteous and polite as we paid the bill and he wished us a good day and to come back.

I would eat there again but maybe order for delivery...

Yeah I'm happy with what we got - ordered delivery, here in Windhoek for 2 days from Ireland so comparing against the Chinese takeaways at home and I'd say it's decent quality. Ordered the stir fried chicken with hot and dry pepper and chicken cashew and really happy with both - nice flavor and not heavy. We ordered on dial-a-meal but never got a confirmation email or text so we messaged them on Facebook to confirm if they had actually received the order. The restaurant called our guesthouse to confirm the order as they weren't familiar with the Irish phone number and were very courteous on the phone and reconfirmed everything. We were told it would be about 90 minutes but it arrived within the hour. The delivery guy was really nice and we had no issue paying with card at the door. I'd definitely order from here again. The only thing I would improve would be slightly bigger portions but that's probably because I was hungry before we...

Yang Tze Chinese Restaurant offers a delightful culinary journey through Chinese cuisine. Nestled in a cozy, inviting atmosphere, this hidden gem impresses with its extensive menu, featuring a variety of traditional dishes that cater to both adventurous foodies and those preferring classic flavors. The standout dishes, such as the succulent Peking Duck, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavors, and the flavorful Dim Sum selection, freshly prepared, highlight the kitchen's commitment to authenticity and quality. The staff at Yang Tze are commendable for their attentive and friendly service, contributing to a warm dining experience. Prices are reasonable, considering the portion sizes and the quality of ingredients used. While the decor is modest, it carries a certain charm that complements the dining experience. Yang Tze Chinese Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone craving an authentic taste of China in a...

Good Chinese restaurant know for their take out. The restaurant itself is simple and spacious. The menu is extensive and there is often a few dishes that are not available especially if you order from the "Chinese" section of the menu. If they have stock and the Chinese chefs are on duty the food is often great. It's worth asking if the Chinese chefs are in the kitchen. If they are not, then its best to stick to the "western" section of the menu.
