Sasaa truly authentic Newari style restaurant. The moment you enter you feel like you are entering to a country side due to vivid ambience. There is a dedicated place for live performances as well.
We sat at the last canopy and behind us there was a beautiful view of the mountain and lights spread across the buildings of the mountain.
We ordered Chicken Chhoila, Buff Chhoila, mutton fukso, peanut masala, traditional newari hookha & Rice beer. Chicken chhoila was perfectly marinated with masala and grilled. This was giving both desi and non desi style chicken taste, which was literally unique. Buff Chhoila was same as Chicken Chhoila’s taste. Mutton fukso was so crispy and tasty and you’ll ask for more. All of these food was so deliciously and exotic.
Coming to newari hookha, wah!! This surprised me because, it was served in a bamboo 😮. They have kept the chimney pot in middle of the bamboo and this chimney contains flavour and magic coal. Bottom portion of this bamboo is filled with cold water, so when u do hookha u r suppose to hold the bamboo in 45 degrees, else water will spill out of bamboo.
Most importantly, Newari Rice Beer. This is something which I really can’t explain in words and I say this is a must try drink as this is an authentic drink of Nepal culture. You find this drink only in Newari restaurants.
We were group of 5 and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. One thing I need to mention about timings, sharp by 9 PM they will be closing the restaurant and if you are still eating then, they will give buffer upto 20mins to wrap up. They don’t entertain in extending the time, so make sure you reach by 7/7.30 in the evening and you get ample of time to spend the evening.
At last, great place for authentic Newari food,...
Read moreToday was probably my 8th or 9th time visiting Sasa. Previously it was over at the opposite of the new one. It used rustic but peaceful and the food delicious. Over the past two three visits I have noticed the QUALITY OF FOOD HAS DETERIORATED Astronomically. The service was so fast, it was suspicious. Today we ordered Sawpumhicha and it literally arrived in under one minute! How is that possible unless its precooked or microwaved! We don't travel so far to a distant land to eat STALE FOOD. They were serving DUPLICATE Coca-Cola. It was probably the WORST TASTING choila I ever tried. Each and every food we ordered felt like it was cooked by a person who has never cooked before. And all this for a crazy hiked up price. For some absurd reason they stopped selling buff lungs (so). When we inquired with the server, she tried to dodge our questions and when I asked to speak to the manager it seemed she was new to that concept. We waited for manager to arrive but he didn't. If he did, I would've told him all this and wouldn't have to write all this in front of the entire world. We had a terrible experience paying ridiculous amount for even ridiculous food. It used to be one of my favourite restaurants but today I sadly have to take 4 stars away from the five I previously gave. To sasa: today I witnessed downfall of a restaurant. This is what happens when the management becomes greedy. There no excuse whatsoever for serving terrible food at your given price point. Your downfall begins when you lose your core customers. Try your own food sometimes. Amend your mistakes before it's too late. I will never visit or recommend your restaurant to anyone until and unless I start hearing good...
Read moreI had the opportunity to be here with my Chinese professor and a Vietnamese VIP. After completing our hiking program at Godavari, we visited this long-awaited restaurant. I had heard its name for many years, as it is one of the best and most popular places serving traditional Newari cuisine. After all this time, the moment finally arrived for me to experience it.
The surroundings are quite impressive, built in a typical Newari architectural style that truly brings the place to life. As for the food, there are so many options! Whatever you desire, you'll find it here. Your stomach will be full, but the variety of Newari dishes seems endless. The food is delicious, infused with the unique fragrances of Newari cuisine.
Some may be surprised to find that the restaurant lacks chairs and tables; instead, the floor is covered with handmade straw mats, which is typical of Newari culture. It's a lovely experience!
During my visit, I also had the chance to enjoy live music, which was amazing and exciting. I would recommend promoting local Newari music bands, like Bhajan Mandal, as well.
The restaurant is located in the heart of Kirtipur and has plenty of parking spaces for both four-wheelers and two-wheelers. While the entrance seems wheelchair accessible, I would kindly request that the owners find ways to make access to the main dining area easier, as the stairs can be a challenge for wheelchair users.
Overall, it's a typical Newari restaurant with a modern touch, situated in a perfect location with ample services and facilities, and most importantly, a wide variety of delicious dishes to satisfy your hunger.
Highly...
