Our first night after a long flight, we walked here and were seated in the restaurant. I had the veggie pasta and my husband had caribbean lobster. Both meals were good and our server that night was absolutely lovely.
Another night, we walked over for a quick, casual bite in the bar area as they had a private event in the dining room. We had a different server. She was young, only there for 2 days, and was still learning the menu items, etc but was very friendly. Until the end. We paid with a credit card and she said "what about adding a tip". I pointed out that a tip is already on the bill. In fact on $61, $9 was added and it is identified as "gratuity". Her smile was gone as she said "that is a service charge". I had to involve our server from the previous visit who was also at the counter and she told the young lady it is a tip.
Now I did give the other server a small additional cash tip. I did this for the young lady as well. Because I am giving her the benefit of the doubt. But we are reluctant to return if we are to have to deal with this type of thing again. I suggest management clarify for their new hires what...
Read moreThe Boon is a one-of-a-kind place! Because no one else does what they do at such a beautiful location as Simpson Bay! Since the aftermath of Erma, the new owner, Chris, has done wonders to make it different than it operated under the former management of Mary's Boon, which only operates the hotel now. I had the pleasure to meet her and spend more time than I should've at the social setting. The restaurant of The Boon offers breakfast, lunch and dinner with traditional and island flair. The new outside bar is the hit on the beach! DJs and live music are usually there on the weekends. The maestro of the outside bar is the BEST bartender I've ever met! Jerry is everything you'd expect, friendly, attentive, engaging, courteous, funny. Mickey, the manager, keeps everything running as smooth as a Rolex. And there are select wines for anyones price range. Can't wait to make it...
Read moreWe stay right by the Boon’s on the beach, so it was convenient to go there for drinks and dinner in the evening. We loved the ambiance and the service. The bar is great, with lots of choices. Judith, our bartender in the evenings, made us some great rum-based cocktails (the passion fruit and the Boon’s cocktails are incredible).
On the restaurant side, we particularly like the shrimp ceviche, the tuna tartar, and for a warm plate the curry shrimp was our favorite.
They also have chairs and umbrellas on the gorgeous beach with turquoise water, and serve drinks as you wish.
Not too crowded so a great place to relax and...
