Borscht — Restaurant in Alkmaar

I must admit I normally go for quantity/price and these are very calculated rations. But, gosh, the flavors, It tasted everything so good! For someone who comes from Spain, I am really enjoying the ukranian gastronomy so far. Shout out specially to the Verenikis, the texture and flavor so on point. The soups are perfect, specially if you feel sick, and Kiev Chicken was a great surprise for me. You can see how clean IS the kitchen and how much effort takes the chef on every dish, also the woman attending was so gentle. You know when you walk into a place and you just get the feeling it’s going to be excellent? Borscht did not disappoint. Every single thing we ordered was excellent, there truly is love in their food. It took me the countryside in Ukraine, where I didn’t grow up, and yet felt immediately at home. The service was good — the staff was friendly and attentive. However, the food left much to be desired. The borscht was served barely warm and came with dry toast bread instead of fresh bread, which affected the overall experience. The honey cake, unfortunately, lacked flavour and felt quite bland. Overall, the food was neither particularly bad nor impressive — just average.
