During my recent visit(holiday) to the Netherlands, I had the delightful opportunity to dine at a charming Mediterranean tapas restaurant that truly captured the essence of the region’s vibrant culinary scene. Nestled in a bustling neighborhood, this hidden gem instantly drew me in with its warm ambiance, inviting décor, and the tantalizing aromas wafting from the kitchen.

From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by the owner (Rogier) who made me feel right at home. The interior was beautifully designed, showcasing a mix of traditional and contemporary Mediterranean elements that perfectly set the mood for a relaxed dining experience. Soft music played in the background, adding to the cozy atmosphere.

As a lover of tapas. I was excited to explore the menu, which boasted an impressive selection of both classic and innovative dishes.I began my meal with a freshly homemade warm foccacia bread served with olive oil and balsamic..then Ceviche (raw fish) which was the perfect starter to awaken my taste buds. Next, I indulged in a variety of small plates, including savoury patatas crocket topped with a delicious aioli, succulent Prawns (Gambas al ajillo) that were bursting with flavor, and a colorful grilled Pulpo (octopus) showcased the freshest ingredients.

One standout dish was the Ceviche, which was expertly freshly made raw fish with sliced thin apple...Each bite was a delightful explosion of flavors, transportive of sun-drenched Mediterranean shores. The portions were generous, allowing me to savour each dish while sharing with my dining companion, which added to the communal spirit of tapas dining.

The wine selection was equally impressive, featuring a thoughtfully curated list of Mediterranean wines that complemented the dishes beautifully. I opted for a lovely Spanish red that paired wonderfully with the flavors on our table.

Dessert was a must, and I couldn’t resist trying Tortino (chocolate lava cake) The perfect sweet ending to a spectacular meal.

Overall, my experience at this Mediterranean tapas restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of fantastic food, excellent service, and a warm atmosphere made for an unforgettable evening. Rogier welcomed us and seated us by the window on a large table. He was an excellent host and made us feel very welcome. He stayed and chatted for a while as we engaged him on the topic of the restaurant being closed for a number of years. He then went on to explain the concept of the food and the portion sizes as the dishes were ‘tapas’ and therefore didn’t want us to over order.

Drinks (cocktails) arrived and they were superb. Modern twists on established favourites. Great way to start the meal.

When the food arrived we had an issue with an undercooked meat dish. Rogier was quick to apologise, explain what had happened and then kicked the chef up the arse Fawlty Towers style. (Joke)

We received another freshly cooked dish, more apologies and were given complimentary drinks on top.

We’ll definitely go back to Hert 64 as Rogier and the team know only too well how to run a restaurant in today’s competitive times, making sure the customer feels they’re enjoying their experience and getting complete value across the board for the money they are spending.

We are visiting from Barcelona and stumbled upon Hert 64 Mediterranean Tapas Restaurant after reading reviews online, and I’m thrilled to say this restaurant did not disappoint! In fact, they exceeded our expectations with every dish they served.

From the refreshing ceviche tartare to the delightful mushroom mix dish, and the flavorful frutti de mare—every bite was absolutely delicious! We even indulged in their tiramisu and tortino, which was the perfect sweet ending to our meal; it disappeared way too quickly!

What truly stood out was the warmth and attentiveness of the owners and chefs. They genuinely care about their guests and go above and beyond to ensure that everyone has an amazing dining experience.

I cannot recommend Hert 64 enough! If you’re looking for incredible Mediterranean tapas and a welcoming atmosphere, this is the place to be. I’m giving it 5 stars and can’t wait...
