We happened upon this quaint, upbeat seafood dining destination while spending a night at the nearby Steigenberger Hotel near Schiphol Airport. We arrived at 8:00 pm on a Friday night (previous calls to make a reservation went unanswered) and were lucky to score a table for two as the place was nearly packed. E we started with the “Fruits de Mer” appetizer (King crab, oysters, mussels, clams & prawns) which we both thoroughly enjoyed. Seeing “Dutch Gold” caviar on the menu for a reasonable price to sample (12.50 Euros) we went for that and we’re not disappointed. We also enjoyed the hot apple pie ala mode. The only item we didn’t really care for was the lobster bisque, which featured some weird “lobster cake” and wasn’t in a cream-based soup, but was more like a clear, brown broth. Read moreWe have found this amazing restaurant by chance. And we liked it so much that we had dinner there two times.
It's in Amstelveen, off the beaten path, not a touristic destination (which is always a better choice 😉).
This is a cute, cozy and warm place, perfect for the fish and seafood lovers, a great choice for vegetarians as well.
Fresh crabs, a really nice variety of oysters or traditional Dutch herrings prepared in their way (marinated with beetroot foam, absolutely must try) - everything was delicious. The staff is professional, they will assist you to make perfect food and wine pairing. The only flaw is that there is no Dutch wine - although the Netherlands is more famous for beer, I guess there's something to offer.
However, we had an amazing gastronomic experience and we hope to come...

One of the chef kept eating the ingredients of what he was making for eg: pieces of meat, fruits, ice cream, etc. He just did not stop from eating/ snacking. It’s ok. He can eat whatever he wants. It does not bother me. However, when he “scooped” the ice cream with his finger and licked it, and then touched other food that he was making, I think that’s unhygienic. This was not one or two times, but it went on and on. To the manager, please ensure proper SOP in...
