I'm not usually one to write reviews, but today my family and I had such a wonderful experience at Osteria Centro in Amstelveen that I felt compelled to share. We arrived just after opening, around 12:15 pm, and stayed until 5:25 pm because we were meeting another family here. From the moment we came in, we were treated exceptionally well—first by the head chef and then by the lovely lady serving us.
One of the highlights for our son was that he got to bake his own pizza right at the table! The dough is given over 48 hours to rise, which made it incredibly light and easy on the stomach. We used to be regulars at Gusto in the Old Village, but as big pizza fans, we've come to the conclusion that Osteria Centro's pizzas are absolutely next level. Truly incredibly delicious!
Later, the owner stopped by our table for a chat. What a genuinely kind man. He shared passionately how he envisioned the restaurant and how happy he is with the results so far. But he also expressed his frustration about occasional fake reviews.
While we were reading reviews with him, a one-star review from someone named Fernanda Cano Lara popped up with a negative review from her experience of today. We were stunned. The review was clearly fake, especially since we'd been in the restaurant the whole time and never saw this person once. It really broke my heart to see the owner feeling powerless about this situation. Over the last days, several people gave him one star unjustly.
Honestly, I wonder if some of this negativity comes from jealousy—it's not hard to see why, given how many five-star reviews this place rightfully deserves. Amstelveen is lucky to have a spot like this—delicious, affordable, and with such a warm atmosphere.
To be clear, I have no personal gain or benefit from this place. Like I said at the start, I'm not generally a reviewer. But this feels so unfair that I wanted to speak up. This place deserves far more than five stars—not just for the amazing food but for the...
Read moreOsteria centro is a lovely new addition to stadshart, and it's so nice to get some more diversity in the cuisine around there (especially for lunch). I went to try the pasta today for lunch and I enjoyed it a lot. The pasta was cooked nice and al dente, and the flavours were reminiscent of pasta's I've had in Italy. I could have probably eaten two bowls to myself! There were many interesting dishes to choose from, and sufficient options for pasta/panini/pizza. I can't speak for the pizzas as I didn't try any, but from what I could see and smell, it looks very promising. They also have a large oven, with a pizzaiolo making them fresh. I will have to go back and try. As for the desserts, I really enjoyed the tiramisu. It had a good balance of coffee and cream/mascarpone, which was refreshing as so many tiramisu's lack coffee. The panna cotta was okay. For my personal taste, it was a bit too firm, the strawberries had gone fizzy, and it missed the rhubarb as described on the menu. The service was friendly, attentive, and everyone was speaking Italian to each other, so that adds to the authentic feeling of the place. All in all, I would highly recommend you give this place a try and hopefully make it a local favourite. I certainly will keep this in my roster of options for lunch...
Read moreA Devilishly Delicious and Delightful Meal at Osteria Centro! Osteria Centro is an absolute gem, and our recent visit was a true highlight! From start to finish, the experience was wonderful, but the food truly stole the show. We decided to try two very different dishes—the Diavoli Pizza and the Fish Salad—and both were spectacular in their own right. The Diavoli Pizza was everything a great pizza should be: perfectly blistered crust, rich, flavorful tomato sauce, and just the right kick of heat from the toppings. It was expertly made and truly devilishly delicious! Equally impressive was the Fish Salad. It was a surprisingly vibrant and refreshing counterpart to the pizza. The fish was clearly fresh, perfectly cooked (or prepared), and paired with a crisp, well-dressed mix of greens and complementary ingredients. It was light, savory, and a total delight! If you're looking for an Italian meal that offers both classic comfort and fresh, inventive flavors, you must visit Osteria Centro. We loved every bite and can't wait to go back! Topped it off with a traditional...
