Bar Pekky — Restaurant in Amsterdam

We stopped by this place expecting to grab a beer and a small bite, but the experience left a lot to be desired. Although we were told they were open, it felt more like we had walked into someone’s living room than a functioning bar or restaurant. The owner was in the middle of having full-blown dinner, and despite acknowledging our presence, no one followed up with us for over 15 minutes.

After waiting without any service or communication, we decided to leave. On the way out, I casually asked if it was always this quiet on Thursdays (especially odd since a stand-up event was scheduled that night). The response was indifferent and dismissive, with the owner saying they were "thinking about closing soon" without even looking away from their food. Honestly, that kind of attitude felt unnecessarily rude and unwelcoming.

If a place isn’t ready to serve customers, it’s totally fine: just say so upfront. But ignoring guests and responding with condescension isn’t how any business...

Awful service. I was shocked when I ordered a bottle of water (0.5l) and the guy on the bar poured around 150ml into glass, added a lot of ice and took back the bottle back. When I asked for a bottle, he said that this is not how it is done. Ok. We have visited this place for a standup comedy. At some point the bartender interrupted the comedian and said that you have 40 secs. It was awful and very rude. I understand that there is some agreements, rules, etc., but this could have been done in private and polite manner. Overall, I dont get why this place has such a high rating: its very small, everything is old, its very dirty inside, staff is rude, prices are too high for the quality and volume of drinks...

Cute place but bad experience. I came for a comedy show and was happy to also support a small place in Amsterdam Noord. First thing is they oversold tickets and the place was cramped and people who bought tickets had to stand the whole evening. Also the bar tender (owner?) cleared my table and removed my drink which wasn’t empty and when I told him he just said “sorry about that”, not very pro. Also within a minute of the comedy show ending, the bar tender comes to us and says we have to clear the back of the room for the next event. Let us breathe for a second after the show maybe ?
