We visited on a Saturday night with 4 people. The location is great, the interior gives off strong '70s vibes with wooden panels and a raised dining platform. The atmosphere was slightly chaotic and it was a bit difficult to hear each other talk. It was also not clear who was supposed to be waiting our table, which made it quite difficult to order extra courses or drinks. The concept of shared dining with smaller portion is nice, but unfortunately the food itself was quite disappointing. The vietnamese style rice paper roll was poorly wrapped and the pairing sauce quite bland. The nachos were not corn nachos, rather some tasteless deepfried dough that tasted suspiciously similar to the pizza fritta one and the guacamole did not taste homemade. The toasted brioche bread tasted a bit stale and the paté was slothered in an extremely sweet sauce that was supposed to be made with Mme Jeannette peppers, but tasted rather like the sweet chili sauce of the AH. The puttanesca sauce on the pizza fritta was pairing very poorly with the taleggio cheese. The vegetarian sliders were ok for a school cantine, but not something I would expect to eat at a restaurant. I would not recommend it for the food, but for a drink and a borrel it may be quite a nice spot, especially...
Read moreDon't expect too much ! my husband and I have booked a new year package - a dinner and a club afterwards. ... the dinner was extended to 4 hours and consisted of never ending appetizers. .. which were like a never ending foreplay of tiny snacks, leading to a main dish not bigger than a size of donut..not very exciting tastes either. So it wasn't the amount you would expect, to keep you energetic for the whole night of dancing and celebrating a new Year. We were simply hungry.... But the atmosphere was definitely nice, very friendly stuff, lovely lights and good music in a club, which was included in our ticket. So my main advice would be : change the chef, cause the food had too much ego, and not enough QUALITY ! Make him/her make a real, honest and fresh food, not tiny dry tasteless snacks, prepared way in advance, very pretentious and expensive looking, yet, not very tasty or fresh, with some small exceptions.... I wonder what would Gordon Ramsay say ... :D Maybe I...
Read moreWe wanted to eat in the Tolhuistuin restaurant, but there were no free table when we got there so we were seated in the 'bar' area for about two hours. We wanted to order tapas, but we were not allowed to do so in that area of the restaurant.
Only one person of our group was dutch, he convinced the waitress to get served at the bar but when we asked her if the others of the group (non-dutch) could also do that, she refused.
After some time we asked the waitress to be seated in the 'restaurant' where few tables were free, she told us to ask the receptionist for a table. As if it was the client's job to do that. We went over to the receptionist who then said he would find us a table right away, thirty minutes later he still didn't find us one.
Overall a very disappointing experience, we were asked to wait patiently for two hours and a half at the bar ordering drinks while waiting to be seated and never got a table - so we left and directly got a table in a crowded...
