Bar Strangelove — Restaurant in Amsterdam

I visit Bar Strangelove quite often because I love their pizzas.

Food: Delicious pizzas always! Kudos to the chefs.

Service: It really depends on who is serving that day. You place the order at the bar- which is really smart because the ones who are serving are usually quite slow in responding if you have a question or want them to clean the table. They would simply ignore you. I thought that was the worst part about their service. But I was wrong. Yesterday, the guy at the bar was extremely ill-mannered while taking the order, didn’t get the order right, and reacted rudely when we asked for some cutlery. I would understand if it was too busy which would cause a general frustration; but yesterday it wasn’t even too busy. Spoiled our Easter Sunday :(

Once you order, the pizzas don’t take long to arrive- good speed in the kitchen which is keeping the place going really.

Atmosphere: It has a nice, casual vibe but it is quite dirty- probably because the servers don’t care to clean it up.

We had made reservations but sat down ourselves (it didnt seem like a restaurant where you had to wait to be seated). We then got ignored by all servers for about 30 minutes before we asked them if we could order. They did not check in on us at all throughout our stay; we always had to call for them and they took forever for everything. This resulted in us coming too late for our film, even though we came to the restaurant 1 1/2 hours before it started. My boyfriend had a chicken-dish, which was 'fine' but my pasta was an extremely tiny portion and not worth the money. The fries were great though (and worth their price)! At the end the server gave us the wrong receipt. All these things alone would not be a big deal, but overall it just gave us the impression that we as guests were unwanted and we will not...

Prachtige plek, maar ongeintereseerde bediening. Er kan geen lachje af (behalve bij het afrekenen) en men staat er volgens mij met tegenzin te werken. We kwamen voor een speciaal evenement waarbij het eten dat we zouden eten uit de 2 films die we eromheen zagen gehaald zou worden. Vantevoren had ik geinformeerd naar wat ongeveer te verwachten en werd er gezegd dat het uit een pasta en nog wat andere gerechten uit de film zou bestaan. Ter plekke bleek het echter alleen om een pasta te gaan en toen ik vertelde dat ik telefonisch contact hierover had gehad werd er alleen maar 'Oh' gezegd en verder niets nagevraagd. Het eten zelf bestond uit een pasta met vongole. Daarvan zat er 1 (!) in mijn pasta; de schelpen van de scheermessen waren op 2 na leeg en ook de langoustines bestonden alleen uit koppen en niet de staart. Mijn tafelgenoten waren gelukkig beter bedeeld. De pasta zelf echter bestond bij twee van ons uit dikke samengeklonte zwarte tagliatelle, waar ook weer niet op gereageerd werd toen ik het liet zien. Omdat het eten eigenlijk te weinig was bestelden we een dessert (voor 2 personen 29 Euro, best prijzig vind ik zelf voor 4 gedeelde nagerechten), wat fantastisch smaakte, maar halverwege vroeg men of we nog naar de 2e film wilden. Er werd gezegd dat die over 2 minuten zou beginnen, dus we haastten ons met het dessert in een servet naar binnen. De film bleek echter al een half uur bezig te zijn. Ook hier werd niets van een uitleg of excuus bij gegeven. Al met al een teleurstellende ervaring als concept/evenement. Ik denk dat als je hier gewoon a la carte gaat eten het best goed zal zijn, de kaart zag er goed uit en ik heb verder ook lovende recensies over de keuken gelezen, maar ik heb ook aan de andere tafels die avond weinig plezier of toewijding bij de...
