We've been going to Troost regularly for 7+ years. It's always been our go-to spot for great beer and reliable food. Even as a meat eater, I'm a huge supporter of the company deciding to go all meatless with their menu, but unfortunately it has really declined the quality of the food. At first you could still get their delicious homemade veggie burgers (made with lentils I think), but now the only option for the burgers is "redefined meat" paddies.Great innovation, but only if you like fake meat to imitate real meat - rather than have a veggie focused option. On top of that, I believe the buns used to be brioche, or something of higher quality, and now they taste like what you buy at Albert Heijn. Burger toppings were minimal and didn't justify the premium burger price. The staff couldn't answer questions about the change in "meat" products, and one server lied to us that they were still homemade. Fries are still good, beers are great and all of their locations are fun hangouts. Just wish they would bring the quality of their burgers (vegetarian or...
Read moreMight have been nicer on a different day. The beers tasted good. We were told we had to buy a not so new-looking plastic cup (which we said we didn't want) at €2,50 each to try their beer because of a festival that was going on today. When we finished our beers the cups were taken away by a waitress, who then returned the used cups from the dirty dish bin after we mentioned we had paid for them but had never wanted them, and that we had to buy them.
The inconsistency and stubbornness was frustrating. I blame the management more than the staff, but this really was not a pleasant experience. We've been to other restaurants during festivals and they have policies that distinguish between people leaving the premises and those that are staying. Since other customers weren't being charged in the same way, and the communication didn't reflect this, the festival is not a...
Read moreI walked into Brouwerij Troost expecting a laid-back brewery experience—craft beers, good vibes, maybe even a decent deal on a simple drink. What I got instead was an unexpected financial gut punch.
A pils for €4.50? My soul left my body. A glass of wine for €6.50? I briefly considered asking if the grapes were hand-crushed by Dutch royalty. Look, I get it—it’s a brewery, they do craft beer, they have a hipster aesthetic. But when I’m paying premium prices for a drink I could get at any random brown café for half the cost, I start to wonder if I accidentally walked into a money-laundering front.
The beer? Tasty, sure. The atmosphere? Nice enough. But the moment that bill hit the table, I felt like I needed to start rethinking my life choices. Brouwerij Troost: where you can enjoy a decent drink—if you don’t mind paying...
