Mixed feelings sadly! We had dinner at Lupe, and I absolutely loved the atmosphere and service. Everyone was welcoming, the place warm and cozy, and I instantly felt like home (we could order and chat in Spanish too!)
They have multiple vegan and veggie options, which is super nice and the reason we came here. The drinks, frijoles, enchilada, and dessert were quite nice! 💕 The quesadilla, salad, and tacos felt underwhelming to me. Not bad, just very simple flavours.
But I think my biggest problems were portion size and price. I left quite hungry, and had to eat some more food when I got home. I would have easily spent 55€+ per person to feel full 😞 I don’t mind splurging in restaurants from time to time, but for plant-based street food to have this price it would have to be either a lot bigger or more elaborate (the 14€ mini quesadilla was disappointing).
I’d love to come back again, cause the vibes were amazing, people so sweet, and I’d like to try more items. But I would prioritise going to Bacalar or Madre if I had...
Read moreConfused about all the great reviews... The place was only half full but the acoustics are terrible. You literally can't have a conversation or order without shouting. We received a shot glass filled with five chips and a thimble full of sauce. The portion size for the 12€ plates is laughably minuscule: between an amuse bouche and a tiny starter in size. The (miniature) mole, which I order whenever I see it, was musty and unfortunately had an ingredient which was rancid. The tiny tacos had a side of beans that was more of an artistic brush stroke than even a single spoonful. The margaritas were okay but very lemony instead of lime and unfortunately poured from a big pre-mix instead of freshly made.
We had two glasses of water, two Margaritas and two tiny plates for 50 euros! We were left hungry but not hungry for more of this. We decided to quickly cut our losses and go get dinner down the street at Janana Burger...

I’ve been lucky enough to eat at Lupe twice in one week: on Thursday, I had dinner with a friend, ordering ceviche, chicken enchiladas with mole sauce, chicken enchiladas with green sauce, chocolate cake for dessert; and for Saturday brunch with my husband, where we ordered chilaquiles with shredded chicken and eggs, chilaquiles with a braised beef, a fluffy brioche with sweetened cheese swirled inside, and more chocolate cake because YES… plus micheladas, mezcal, and drip coffee.
Everything was incredible! I even forgot to take photos because I was busy digging in and happy dancing as I ate.
The atmosphere is great at night, it has a family vibe for brunch, and Juan was just lovely both times I saw him.
If you haven’t been yet… go! It’s...
