Tasty, wonderful and welcoming!
My children and I had one evening in Amsterdam a few days ago and wished to spend it in a restaurant where we could relax and have great veg food in a nice environment. We chose to go to "Chez Nina" since I've enjoyed her amazing Instagram-inspo since years (we are from Sweden and she's well known there too of course).
Oh my - it was even better than we expected. My children and I felt so welcomed. Nina checked by our table and welcomed us and the staff gave great recommendations for what they thought my children would appreciate to eat. We had veggie fritters and padrons as starters. We continued with nori pizza, mint avo salad, nori spaghetti and beet egg tahini. We finalized the evening with the chocolate and cherries cake. Everything was so yummy and nicely plated too. Wish we could've tried more but we were full.
The restaurant decor is classic and timeless just like a brasserie should be. As we sat close to the grand bar we also got to see when they prepared the great non alcoholic drinks. I don't remember the names but one was sort of "Nina razz" and the other "Nina mandarin". Both refreshing and much better and more appreciated than soda by my kids. I tried (thanks to appealing recommendation by staff) the "natural" wine and it tasted great.
During our visit the restaurant was busy and people continuously dropped in so it was a lively but calm buzz. Also great they have seating outdoors for when the weather is nice.
We left with happy smiles and stomachs and will for sure come back again as soon as we have the chance. I highly recommend Chez Nina for both a full great evening with family/friends and for coffee/drink even on your own...
Read moreGood but disappointing for the price. For a 55 euros vegetarian menu in a restaurant where you need to pay upfront to book, I expect: High quality wine: this was the case. They offer a great variety by the glass, and you pay a fair price for what you get. Good service: it was very efficient but actually way too fast. They make you understand you need to leave within 2 hours when you arrive and will bring you the next dish before you finished the current one. A bit stupid because then you are also not encouraged to consume wine which in my opinion was the highlight of the restaurant… Creative cuisine or amazing products: this was not the case. I don’t understand the other comments: yes the dishes were very good, well seasoned and nicely presented but all the associations were standard (carrot + yogurt + mint, mushroom pizza with truffle sauce, blue cheese + apple + salads + walnuts). And the quality of the products was not special either: the tomato of the « tomato carpaccio » was too mature, rucola had no taste, the « truffle » pizza didn’t have any actual pieces of truffle inside it was just truffle oil. So fine for 40 euros but clearly not for 55 euros.
I therefore would not recommend it for dinner, only for drinks because the...
Read moreIt was a terrible experience, I left feeling nauseous and was sick all night. There was no air inside in the first place, and outside we had to sit on hard and cold metal chairs, so close to the next table that we could hear every word of the date. The drink they thought was ice tea turned out to be something with a terrible taste of rose water. We asked for the 10-course tasting menu, but they asked double prise the amount indicated on the menu. Now I either list the full price of a two-person tasting menu on the menu (each course comes with 1 plate) or I bring monden on two small plates, but we received the indicated menu once but they asked for double the price. Almost everything was bitter and unsalted either from the green oil or the toasted (burnt?) almonds. I don't understand why they have to be added to everything, not a very creative vegetarian attitude! I would have expected a lot more, especially for so much money, a hefty amount was also charged for the soda, of which we had to pay more to make the food go down somehow. The service was nice, I can appreciate that, but the food...
