Saigon Caphé Gelderlandplein — Restaurant in Amsterdam

I have been here multiple times, and they have been pleasant. But today, we were treated rudely by a waiter that I don't usually see there.

He took the order of the table next to us, even when we arrived first. And then when we told him that we want to order, he came but then immediately left us because he "needs to say hi to his friend who was passing by". We wouldn't mind that if he had asked one of his colleagues to maybe take our order in the mean time. He chatted at the door with his friend for quite some minutes, and when one of ask walked to the door to ask if someone else can take our order, he aggressively complained about our request!

I mentioned that it felt rude to leave us in the middle of ordering, and he gaslit us, saying that it's not rude, while raising his voice! How unprofessional.

Needless to say, we left to eat at the restaurant next door. If I see that man serving in the restaurant, I will not come to dine in. Very unpleasant experience, rude, and disappointing since usually this place has...

I had lunch there on 7 July. The wait staff was not super friendly and more interested in speaking with each other than taking care of customers. Based on reviews I read, I had expectations about the food and was disappointed. First of all, I ordered the Banh Xheo. It was definitely not authentic. They didn’t provide with the necessary, herbs and lettuce that is traditionally served on the side, and I had to pay extra when I asked for it. The pancake was not crispy as should be the case, it was quite Soggy and somewhat bland. This is such a simple dish to make, and it was disappointing that no effort was made here. I also ordered the Vietnamese spareribs. Again, here little effort was made. The ribs were fried and served on a bed of rice, but we’re not crispy and again rather bland. The nuoc mam was watery.

If you’re looking to have an authentic Vietnamese meal, I would suggest to go elsewhere. However, if you’re seeking for a quick Asian Influenced meal And you’re not too picky you might be...

We heard some good things about this place, so it could be that our expectations were a bit too high. The staff is friendly, the restaurant looked very nice but the toilet could be cleaned a bit more. Upon arrival they ask for your QR code and check your ID. From the first floor were we sat, we could see Sinterklaas and his Muziek Pieten. My daughter loved seeing them. So did we. It saved us a trip through the rain.

The food: we ordered a lunch menu. I think it was about €12,50/€15,00. A Bahnmi Chicken with Pho. The baguette was quit though and dry. The overal flavor of the filling was okay. The Pho really missed something. For the first time I didn't finished the broth itself. The upside is that the guests are able to decide for themselves what to add to their soup.
