Go to Tujuh Maret and get the Minahasa rice table.
I was in Amsterdam and had heard it was good, but it surpassed my expectations. The food was exceptional, dare I say, the rice table was a masterpiece. The curation and thought put in by the chefs, showcasing a variety of dishes that each brought a unique flavor to the table and the way they complemented each other across the whole table was like nothing I’d ever experienced before.
The quality of the food was high, and the rice table is well presented. I still can’t fully articulate and understand how these diverse dishes harmonized, creating a seamless and flavorful meal. There were no clashes in taste; instead, each, one built on and enhanced the overall meal. I kept waiting for the wacky, too spicy or one I didn’t like - it didn’t happen.
I would like to extend my gratitude to the entire team at Tujuh Maret for their exceptional service and the thought and attention to detail in planning and executed their menu. The restaurant was busy, and the staff were professional and knowledgeable, adding to the warm atmosphere of the restaurant. Thank you for a memorable evening. I highly recommend Tujuh Maret to anyone looking for a top-notch and unique dining experience...
Read moreHad the largest of the tasting option menus for three people. The food is all done in house, cooked properly and with good skill. It's delicious. Dishes are obviously prepared carefully and individually. Service is great, with a nice lady doing the whole restaurant (it's quite small). Limited wine list but that's not an issue, and the white we had was very nice. The waitress asked about levels of heat/chilli. I asked for very spicy, but in fact the hottest dish was pretty mild for me anyway. They brought me some chopped chilli paste to add to my plates, which was a nice touch. They were a little late with the accompanying rice for our order, but pretty much instantly rectified that when we asked. I've no problem at all with that kind of service. In essence, this place has all the things I want for good quality food. Wasn't super fast (but wasn't slow either), and the quality of the food was excellent. Price was really pretty good for Amsterdam - about 25 GBP per head for the 18 dish tasting menu. Good value in fact. Indonesian food is new to me, and this has made me want to explore...
Read moreFirst time at an Indonesian restaurant. We were excited to eat here and ordered the 18 dish special to share between 2. Beware, it is a lot of food.
The food was.. acceptable. I feel bad saying this, as there wasn't anything wrong with the food, but we were "whelmed". There were 5 or 6 standout dishes that were quite enjoyable, but the majority were just okay, with 1 or 2 not quite hitting the mark. I think a big problem was that out of 18 (really 14, since 2 are rice and 2 are topping/pickles to eat with the other dishes), 6 dishes were the same 2 meats, chicken and beef, but with a slightly different sauce: described as mild, medium, and hot. The meat ended up slightly dry and repetitive, with not enough variation in flavour and spice to justify 6 dishes. I also thought that the 3 spice levels were more: not spicy, mild, medium, which was disappointing.
Anyway, service was great and the restaurant had a good vibe. I'd still say the experience was enjoyable, but since food quality comes first for me, I wouldn't personally recommend it to friends. But I rate for my...
