Had a lovely diner with some friends. We got a table next to the open kitchen, so we could see all the action happening. First impression is a nice and cozy ambiance with some warm lightings. I was already familiar with the food, because i've been to their first restaurant at Voetboogstraat before. The food was amazing as usual. And here at Bhati pasal Klinkers they serve more items on the menu compared to the smaller restaurant at the Voetboogstraat. My Go-To items on the menu are the momo's, Nepalese style dumplings. It doesn't matter how your appetite is for the day, you must have at least one platter of momo's. You can choose from Chicken, pork or vegetable filling, either pan-fried or steamed. And in addition to the regular trio of momo's, here at Klinkers they also serve a steamed open style buffalo meat momo. They also have a bara dish served with pickled vegetables, cauliflower cream and a perfectly poached egg. The flavors were perfectly in harmony. Each component of the dish had a distinct texture and flavor. Combined in one bite, it was just great. Towards the main dishes, you can either indulge yourself in a noodle soup dish (Thukpa), wok noodle dish (Chow Mein) or a fried rice dish (Bhute Ko Bhat), but we had the Bhati Pasal Thali. A platter consisting of a protein of choice, rice, seasonal vegetables and pickles. Definitely take this dish if you're trying Nepalese food for the first time. You'll get a great taste of what they can offer. last but not least, are the desserts. Nothing to explain here. Just take everything. I'll stop my ramble here and plan my next visit.
Conclusion: Great ambiance...
Read moreThis was my very first time trying a Nepali restaurant in Amsterdam and in my life and it was such a nice experience!
The service was fantastic. The walls were decorated with beautiful photos of people from Nepal which really matched the warmth and friendliness of the staff. They were happy to answer our questions and chat but never in an overbearing way, just the right balance.
The place had plenty of space between tables which is not always the case in Amsterdam (no overhearing the next table’s gossip here!).
Buff Choila For food I tried Buff Choila which was also my first time eating water buffalo. The meat was rich and a bit fatty but paired with the crispy rice (also a first for me) it worked perfectly. The chili was just right. enough to give a kick without hiding the flavor of the meat.
Vegetarian Kothay We also had Vegetarian Kothay which we expected to be like Nepali dumplings. The taste of the filling and sauce was completely different from what we imagined in a surprising but interesting and nice way!
Dessert For dessert we had to try them all (there are four and we were four people). Juju Dhau known as the “King of Yogurts” was thick flavorful topped with fruit and not too sweet. I loved it. Yamari looked beautiful though I found the dough a bit thick. The carrot pudding tasted mostly like warm carrot and needed the sour cream for more excitement. And their “brownie” actually reminded me more of Persian halva, unexpected but nice to try.
Overall it was a great first taste of Nepalese food with a warm atmosphere and really good vibes. I would...
Read moreBeing born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal, I found the food quite close to authentic Nepalese food. Loved every bite of it! Great job, Pun ji !
We arrived 30 minutes early. Informed one of the servers about our early arrival and asked politely if we could either sit at the bar or come back later. She welcomed us pleasently at the bar. However, one of the Nepalese servers was quite rude as we sat at the bar for 10 mins without any service. A bit annoyed, I asked if we could be served water or any other beverages, She made a rude comment in Nepali, assuming I wouldn't understand it, that we had arrived early and had attitude. She later apologized, and I accepted her apology.
My only ask is whether you are Nepali, Dutch, English, or any other nationality. Don't assume we as customers know what's happening in your restaurant with guests' arrangements. Communicate with everyone politely and gracefully. Show the Nepalese hospitality that our country and us Nepalese are well known for.
It would be remiss of me to say that our other Nepalese server Noor was a great host and was...
