Hemingway — Restaurant in Curaçao

Brought my new fiancé here for a special, last-night-of-vacation-dinner. What a horrible, rude mistake.

Placed our order and waited an hour and a half for our meal. When it looked like the restaurant was beginning to close we enquired about our dinner and found out our waiter completely forgot to place the order. Soon after our food arrived, only without silverware and with the wrong sides. They corrected the sides but I had to go to the bar to fetch our silverware.

We waited for an apology or assurance that our meal was being comped/ discounted, but got neither. We sat there after finishing our meal, again waiting, while the staff began closing the restaurant, with no bill and no apology.

We had to go to the bar to even see if anyone wanted to charge us or let us leave. When it became clear that we were going to be charged full price we asked for a manager. Without even a simple “sorry” he agreed to merely discount out meal, and seemed more bothered that I complained by our whole experience.

Again, this was supposed to be a special, end of vacation dinner for me and the girl I had just proposed to, but the Hemingway and their completed tainted an otherwise lovely stay...

My first encounter with Hemingway was at first a unpleasant one. I had a bad experience with a server on the beach (very rude Dutch young man who recently started working there) on Sat. Feb. 15, 2025 which left my quite upset. I have worked for years in the Hospitality Industry in different roles and would never have even thought of treating a guest as badly as this young man treated me. I gave a complaint at the Frontdesk with Sergio who handled it like a charm as he listened to me and connected me immediately with Michenoe (the Restaurant Supervisor on Duty). Michenoe was absolutely wonderful and handled the situation perfectly. In the evening I had dinner here and Didi, my server, was very attentive, she did a great job at providing me with a wonderful experience. Because of the bad experience I had, Michenoe made sure to comp my partner and I 's breakfast on Sun Feb. 16, 2025 where Nina and the rest of the breakfast service team took amazing care of myself and my partner. I didn’t realize there were other places outside of my resort & was very excited to try another place. This restaurant is attached to another hotel that looks nice from the outside. I arrived really late & the staff was a bit confused but they were still serving so I understand why I got confused looks. All of the waiters look like they’re 18 - 23 just trying to pass time. I got the following:

Chardonnay: 4/5 reasonable Piri Piri Shrimps: 1/5 do not get. Under-seasoned & the sauce was just there. The bread is not needed & very small portion. Caesar salad: 3/5 okayyy. This was interesting. Recommend getting without croutons, as it might have been more manageable then. Also dressing on the side. Spanish Coffee: 5/5 best item. So delightful! I wish I got 2 of these instead of the chardonnay. I thought it was strong at first, but the whip cream balanced it out.

There’s also a friendly cat that plops down around & he’s so cute! I’m not sure if I’d go again, but I would be willing to try...
