Think Twice and read reviews carefully. Initially I was very up in the air about sharing my experience, but when the bus started to leave with my wife and 2 small children along with another family and their 2 small children still in the lobby to head back to the airport I had to write this review. While there are positive experiences to be had at Sunscapes Resort, there are many important details that just sour the experience overall. This was a family trip for my 50th Birthday. Before booking we read about 50 Google reviews. We were aware of the reviews regarding outdated rooms and poor quality of food, but were willing to overlook these issues as the other amenities were rated top notch.. The rooms were outdated, with ours #3234 in particular, located next to the main elevator which was broken the entire time and posed a great danger to my 3 year old child as the elevator was stuck on our floor outside our room and in 5 minute intervals it would open up its doors and then with uncontrolled force slam shut causing a thundering boom. This was on our first day there! To compound matters, our room door would not shut properly posing a problem for out safety as our 3 year old might slip out or someone may slip in at any time. The next morning when I woke, I headed down to the front desk to sort the door and elevator issue out only to be confronted by a local man strung out on drugs sitting on the stairs. I avoided him, headed back to my room and called security. With no answer again at the front desk, I had to walk down using a longer route to avoid the man. When I reached the front desk, the 2 girls were there giggling and socializing with other staff. I reported the man and security headed up....I learned later in the time of my absence he had bangged on my door which my wife had latched with a gap in between as she yelled wrong room please leave. In the aftermath, I learned he was local who frequented the resort because he was 'connected' and he wouldn't be bothering us again. Not a great first 24 hours. Our experience only worsened as out rooms had not been stocked with enough towels and the 1 towel left to satisfy 4 guest had been soiled. It was late evening of our 2nd day when we finally were replenished. Out first experience with dining was forgettable as we choose the Blue Water Grill. Our server started out pleasant and took our 2 adult orders and 2 children orders. Unfortunately, our adult orders arrived within 15 minutes but after about 40 minutes and 10 tables later, our children's food hadn't arrived and our waitress had disappeared. Needles to say we left for the buffet which was a very poor consolation given the poor quality of the food. On the 5th night we tried the Italian restaurant and everything was fine until they served us soup in a bowl cracked right through with chips all around the rim..didn't touch the soup and the waitress only smiled when I pointed out the danger to her. On this same day, out housekeeping experience took another turn for the worse as the fill in cleaner skipped our room. We had sandfilled beds from the kids the previous night that needed change, overfilled garbage and no towels or toilet paper. I had to once again walk down to the front desk and argue with the Supervisor Angie at the front desk to have the room changed. She gave me attitude as if this is my problem. After 2 hours, at 8pm, I finally spoke to Pedro, a manager...of entertainment not even a proper manager. He was however above and beyond helpful and resolved the issue of the room within the hour. On a very bright note, the entertainment was top notch. Pedro and his team particularly Joel were fantastic. But the best part of this resort is the kids club and the wonderful love and attention they showed our children, knowing what we were going through on this nightmare vaccation. Marvette is a sweetheart and her staff at the kids club went above and beyond to make sure the kids had the time of their life. I am dissappointed that the Hyatt could put its name to a resort like this with such poor...
Read moreSo just this last week I had the opportunity to stay for eight nights at sunscapes Curacao. This would be my fifth time traveling to the Caribbean. I always go for the all inclusive deals, I mean come on, all you can eat? All you drink!? That's a no-brainer, especially with the cost of food and alcohol nowadays. So on the flight down, I was pretty excited. For the most part, when I travel to the Caribbean the time spent there is nothing short of exceptional. This was not one of those time. I shall elaborate, and share my personal experience with you. Upon arriving, we were greeted (group of 18), and ushered into a check-in/information office. We were immediately offered refreshments, and giving a run-down of what are "sun-club" Perks were. I'll come back to those. So we had arrived shortly after 1 pm, and had been told our rooms wouldn't be ready until 3. Wait a min, I booked the stay well over 8 months ago, now I have to sit and wait for a room, after sleeping 1 hour through the previous nights travel shenanigans. Kinda annoyed. So we kill 2 hours, and half of the rooms aren't ready yet. I get my room keys, and head to my room. The key doesn't work. I go back, ask for a new key, go back to the room and again, the key doesn't work. So just by chance a woman who worked there saw me struggling with the key, and she asked to the the reservation. I show her, and she informed me that I'm at the wrong door, I misread the numbers. So I get to the room, and quite let down. As with the other reviews. There was only 1 shower door in the bathroom. The decor was in serious need of update, like it was due decades ago. But on the plus side, the bed was actually comfy. The food. The buffet is an absolute flop. None of it is kept at the proper safe consumption temperature, flys all over the salad bar, and I had the joy of discovering basically maggots in the cereal (raisin bran) on my last day. I don't know how many I consumed, but I know it was some, and I'm very disgusted by it. I informed a worker, but I have no idea what happened, if it was tossed, or just brushed off, I can't say. One of the nights, I went to the blue water grill for supper. My fiance had the steak, I had the chx with spinach sauce. The steak (ribeye LoL, if that's what ya call it) was literally ¼" thick, and just complete grizzle. You would think, being so thin that they could have cooked it to the right temperature. It was still raw when it came to the table. The environment. So, everything is outdated. From the crushed White Stone that they used for decoration, to the warped cornhole boards, that there was no way you could play a game on. The casino has two up-to-date slot machines, the rest are either decades-old, or just not working entirely. They did have a few card tables, but they never had anybody hosting games. And the few times that they did, they were so packed you couldn't get into play. One night when I had three or four of my friends with me, I asked them if they could open up a second card table, and the cashier looked at me like I was crazy. I figure they didn't open up the table, because they weren't making as much money as they did off the slots. There were two times that I noticed rats scurrying around (on premise), and anywhere you travel on the island, there is just trash everywhere along the roads The service. I got to tell you, I literally met one of the best waitresses in my life at the seafood joint. She was unbelievably friendly, she remembered my drink from days before, extremely attentive, and always ready to help make my dining experience better. Unfortunately she is a gem and a rough, she could do so much better at another resort. Other than that, most of the bartenders didn't really care about getting you a drink in any sort of a timely fashion. They didn't like to make exotic drinks, even though I tip every single time I went up to the bar. (I worked in the food service industry for two decades, I tip) Only to have"meh" level service. So I guess the bottom line is, do yourself a favor, skip this place and find...
Read moreSunscape Resort & Hyatt’s Sun Club Overall the resort did not meet expectations in almost every way. Room - the Honeymoon Suite. Coffee station in room never had regular coffee (only decaf) despite asking at Sun Club concierge and maid directly. Never once had a warm shower at hotel, always cool or lukewarm if we were lucky that day. Face and hand towels were missing at arrival, had to ask concierge to bring. Smelly bath towels were delivered on some random days. Stocking of fridge beer only happened 1day we didn’t ask, even though this is supposed to happen daily in Sun Club. Water in fridge was delivered some days. Water leaking under sink, must have been for years as the shelf was heavily warped. Luckily this shelf holds towels and the hairdryer. What could go wrong. Beach - No beach service for drinks, the cups look 20 yrs old, used cups were left to sit out all day until the end of day in late cleanup, then picked up in clear garbage bags. Beach towels appeared 10 years old, received ones worn threadbare most days. There were never enough beach chairs, people constantly searching for open ones. All chairs were covered in towels at dawn, guests up early and down claiming them so they could get a spot for the day, leaving others with no chairs. There was no separation or indication of a special Sun Club area or at the bar even though this was described at check in, so everyone in the resort just spreads out to the whole beach and bar, so whatever Sun Club benefits we paid extra for there were lost. Food - Overall food quality below average, we tried every restaurant and buffet. Oceania only one that was at least average. There was never enough space at small restaurants until 8 pm or so (you had to line up at opening to get your name on for a spot), and with one closed each day, the resort was definitely pushing people to the terrible buffet. On first day we ordered room service which never showed up after 1.5 hours, then gave up. When ordering room service we couldn’t get through to them (which they warned us about…), called sun club concierge instead who ordered for us but it still never showed. Called to let them know. Understaffed everywhere although staff very nice everywhere, trying to keep up with asks and service needed. Booking of teppanyaki made so difficult, made seem to be such an amazing and hard to get experience. Average meal. Only 2 of 3 tables were operated, contributing to the difficult booking availability. Restaurant openings sometimes incorrect in app, wasted time trying to book teppanyaki since app said it was open, only to call sun club for help and find it was actually closed that day On the last evening, went to Bluewater grill at 8pm, was then told it was 2 hour wait (they close at 10). Went to Italian place instead, still a 45 min wait. Wine glass received was filthy but no worries they ran out of red wine 10 min after arrival anyway so didn't need to use it. Resort general -Sun club pool bar was terrible, a makeshift ramshackle structure. Premium liquours were essentially nonexistent. “Oh, sorry - they didn’t bring that today” (bar staff). There was 1 type of beer in whole resort. Hotel store had 2 other kinds to buy, Corona and other local for 8$, guess they are happy to have you pay extra for the basics of supposed Sun club premium. Overall there were broken things in room and all around resort - generally a poor level of care. Our room was the only saving grace of the resort, there was a beautiful view from balcony and was quiet until the last night when we found how thin the walls were with a noisy family next door. The staff were friendly and accommodating across the resort. The Hyatt Sunscape experience was unsatisfactory in almost every way. The Sun (Slum) Club certainly not very special. Poor to below average across the board. This is a 2star resort at best. Best night we had was when we didn't stay there - we drove to another resort and stayed with a good meal (of course paying extra for that). Would definitely...
