I used to come here quite a bit over a few years time. But hadn't eaten there in a while until yesterday. At first I must say it was good to see some money had been invested into the interior. It looks good, but when the old sticky menu's were pulled I quickly got a bit disapointed. But told myself that what matters is how the food tastes. What I got however was very disapointing.. Everything Ilio's used to be food wise was gone. When your order a schrimp "cocktail" you expect schrimps with a bit of cocktail sauce some salad served in a bowl. Not a plate full with salad some white sauce in the middle with 3 maybe 4 schrimps and a bunch of apple.. We told the staff and they handled it very well and gave another serve, but taste wise it just wasn't it. But again compliments to the staff who were nice and profesional. As main course I ordered gyros which in my opnion is the thing to order at a greek restaurant. Both the taste and especially smell didn't seem right. A bit sour. And the fries that came with it were not warm.
Last thing that didn't feel right is that everything when you enter looks great but, not wel maintained. Sticky tables, toilet rolls om the wrong spot, dirty bathroom etc.
But the staff was excellent. If the food gets better and a bit more time is put into cleaning/maintenance this would be just as good if not better than what...
Read moreThe service is exemplary and we were very satisfied with it, based on service alone it would be a 5/5.
However, for us, the problem was the food. The quality of the food leaves a lot to be desired, the food was overcooked, the mousakás was not cooked properly and the bechamel sauce was incredibly thick compared to the filling. The meat was dry, overcooked and salty. The octopus was chewy. The rice was dry and flavorless… We were quite disappointed, especially because the waiters were just so nice and offered amazing service. The quantities of food provided were quite honestly, obscene. I am sure there’s a clientele for it, but we weren’t it. We rather had well-cooked dishes with far less quantity and better quality products. I am confident that this restaurant has the potential to do Greece proud, but I don’t think it did tonight.
I would recommend them to reduce the amount of dishes in their menu, agree on 4-10 dishes they do very well and concentrate on providing excellent quality products. A lot of these dishes take insane amounts of cooking time, it is a disservice to everyone to rush...
Read moreIf you’re craving Greek food and are in Eindhoven, go to Ilios. For me they hit the spot, it was exactly what I wanted. We ordered 2 different meat platters, and the man serving us, said he was going to make something of it. We received a huge mixed platter of meat, rice, salad, tzatziki and fries. It was awesome and very tasty. My brother wanted the octopus starter as a main course, and that could be done as well, super accommodating. They gave us some complimentary bread and dips, which were veryy good and tasted freshly housemade. We got our food super quickly, but that may be because we were there at a slightly odd time. To finish it off they offered a cocktail on the house, which may have been my favourite thing that afternoon. I’m not sure what exactly was in it, but it was pink and tasted watermelony and citrusy. It seemed as if the restaurant was owned by actual Greek people, which is often a good sign. If I ever find myself in Eindhoven again, there would not be much convincing necessary to take me back to...
