I'm very glad we didn't read the reviews here first, otherwise we may have passed on this Café. In fact, our family of 4 liked it so much, we ate dinner here all 3 nights of our visit to Middelburg. My pork tenderloin w/peppercorn sauce was excellent and my ex-pat American brother found his hamburger to be the best he's had since moving to Europe 8 years ago. For our last meal there, we had pizza and again, my brother was delighted to have a good American-style pizza, something that's apparently hard to get. The cocktails were amazing! Over the course of the 3 days, we tried the Woo Woo, Lazy Red Cheeks, Long Island Ice Tea, and Rosey's Watermelon. And a Bailey's & coffee to go :) We had no issues with the service, and found the staff to be attentive, so friendly and kind, and they all seemed to enjoy their jobs. Had dinner there. Had the full rack of Baby Back ribs. Very, very good. Just like in the USA. Friend had the margharita pizza. It was pretty good. The caprese salad was pretty good too. One BIG NEGATIVE: We were husband & wife plus a friend so we wanted 2 separate checks. “Oh, no! We can’t do that!” said the waitress! Can you believe that!???? I said “well then we’ll move to that table” pointing to the table right next to ours. Then she says, “I can charge the drink to table #2” and then give separate checks. Ridiculous. Why ruin the diners experience like that with this ridiculous nonsense? Oh well. Good...

Maandag 6 Februari waren wij mijn vriend en ik bij de Marktcafe om te lunchen. Wij dachten lekker met dit koude weer, om een kommetje erwtensoep te nuttigen.

Het duurde een eeuwigheid voordat de soep geserveerd werd. Het werd geserveerd op een plankje met roggebrood en katenspek en bedje waterige sla. Maar het allerergste vind ik dat de soep behoorlijk aangelengd was met water, en de "bliksmaak" gehalte was zeer hoog.

Als klap op de vuurpijl zag ik de kok naar de toilet gaan met zijn koksschortje en een vaatdoek op zijn schouders.Dit zijn zulke onhygiënische omstandigheden dat mijn maag omdraaide bij het aanschouwen van deze tafereel.

En nu komt het,de bedrijfsleider vroeg heel vriendelijk of het gesmaakt heeft,de mensen zullen wel "ja" knikken,maar ik niet, ik zeg deze soep was niet lekker.Kunt u het beter zei hij bij wijze van een grapje.Ik zeg ,ik kan het veel beter.Toen haalde hij de kok uit de keuken,die ook beweerde dat het versgekookt was. Ik weet heus wat het verschil is tussen een versgemaakt product en een product dat uit een blik komt.Dit vind ik dus pure oplichterij.

Je kies ervoor om ergens gezellig iets te gaan eten en dan krijg iets voorgeschoteld dat wij zelf even naar de supermarkt hadden kunnen gaan ophalen opwarmen en hopla naar binnen werken.
