De Herberg — Restaurant in Middelburg

We sat down for dinner, and i would give the food 3,5. It's Café food, but nothing that'll rock your world. On this semi busy night however it took around 1 hour to get the mains, they though compensated with a free drink (that they later tried to charge in the bill). The issue came with payment, as the owner of the place only offers the local Dutch payment of Maestro. We presented both Visa and Mastercard, but the waitress insisted on us to go to an ATM even being told we pay fees to take out money internationally, saying "it is not her problem". When we went to towards the ATM the restaurant manager send one of waiters to follow us, hiding behind trees and other comical behavior. Great venue in the heart of Middelburg. We were seated on the first floor in the back, in between some other diners. De Herberg feels very homely, like a big house.

We had ribs and Pepesan for dinner (the latter being a spicy Indonesian prepared fish dish). According to my friend, the ribs were juicy and tender and slid right of the bone. The pepesan was good in taste; a bit of an awkward combination with the roti pancake, but somehow it worked. Our desserts were cheesecake and the house special, a chocolately-strawberry thingy. Overall atmosphere is great and I guess one of the more popular places in Middelburg.

Food was delicious, great chicken wings and amazing freshly fried fries. We tried the burger and was great quality and had good patty bread ratio. However, the service was poor. We had to order twice the same beer and only arrived once but it showed on the bill - the bartender removed it for us in the end. 30 minutes later after the beer incident we order 2 more beers and the menu for the dessert. Menu came, not the beers and also not the server for the order, although she'd seen us signaling her. The servers seemed more interested in checking the screen for putting in orders than seeing to...
