I will give an honest review as an Indonesian.
4 stars overall, but 3 stars for the food.
Good variations of food, but the only meat choice was the rendang meat. Wish there had been at least one other meal option.
The food tasted good and I appreciate the attempt of wrapping all the stuff altogether in a wax paper to create the typical “nasi rames” meal. I do however have a few thoughts on the food:
The terong meal was too sour (almost tasted like it was not fresh), or maybe there was a little too much tomatoes, I don’t know but definitely needs improvement there, given many reviews that say the food is great.
The jackfruit meal tasted fine has too much “kentjur” in it, and the originam jackfruit curry we have at home do not even have that much kentjur. We like it in our food but not too much.
The tempe was nice but again, a little sour in my opinion, so maybe it was not fresh or the same case with the terong meal.
The rendang meat was good.
The rice and sambal tasted good, the sambal was spicy (as spicy as what I expected from an Indonesian sambal).
The owner was friendly.
To find a place like this in Middelburg sure is nice. I think if the food could be more fresh or the recipe could be improved a little, it will be...
Read moreI am an Indonesian and I just tried this last night, it is delicious! The flavour is the 'correct' flavour as usually Indonesian dish here in Europe is 'altered' to the western tounge. This one is a real deal! We had take aways (pity that there are only 2 benches available) and food is wrapped just the way an Indonesian warung always does! Menu was rice with 2 choice of meat and 2 choice of veggies or rice with 4 choice of veggies. We chose the meat option: Rendang, Babi Ketjap, Sayur Buntjis, Tempeh, and Sambal teri (anchovies) and they are out of thia world haha. My friend said the same too, and he loves the Sayur Nangka (Curried Jackfruit).
Totally...
Read moreWhat a great little place! Delicious food - the Rendang was amazing and the eggplant in tomato sauce is so so good - cosy atmosphere, down-to-earth but comfy and such a lovely owner! He gave us a quick lesson on Dutch-Indonesian history and the influences on both cuisines, showed us his cookbooks that had been brought over by his aunt back in the day and went back inside to get some special sweets for us when we carried on chatting while leaving the place and got onto the topic of traditional sweets. We were rather sad to have discovered this place on the last day of our holidays but will def come back when we are in...
