Stadscafé Jan — Restaurant in Nijmegen

With so many food options I say AVOID this establishment at all costs. Service sucks and Attitude stinks even more. My husband and I wanted dinner on a Monday night (hardly packed at all) and we were told they would only serve bar snacks and will take some time to serve as it is ‘busy’.we see only 4-5 tables of guests having drinks not meals. So we say ok, thinking well how long can bar snacks take. It took a good one hour and food isn’t here yet.. we were almost dying of starvation by then. No updates despite them telling us it will take 20mins (it took them one hour eventually) despite us being the only table ordering food. While we can understand perhaps they are understaffed what drove the nail into the coffin was the attitude of the staff. One of them actually said DON’T Order if you can’t wait and put them blame back onto us? No apologies nothing. We have met mostly wonderful Dutch people who are super helpful and polite but wow this establishment shouldn’t be allowed to operate. Wach auf, Jan!

Stadscafé Jan, oh, Stadscafé Jan... wat een unieke belevenis was dat. Hier heb je het klassieke stadscafé scenario: we komen binnen, worden begroet, bestellen iets om te drinken, en alles lijkt in orde. Ons avontuur begint echt als we de menukaart krijgen. Ah, die opwinding die de verwachting van een goede maaltijd brengt. Maar Jan, je had een verrassing voor ons in petto!

Binnen een tijdsbestek dat ik alleen maar als een wereldrecord kan beschrijven, verdween onze droom van een heerlijk diner in rook. Slechts drie minuten na het ontvangen van de menukaart, krijgen we te horen dat er niets meer beschikbaar is van de kaart. Poef! Net als dat, Stadscafé Jan, liet je ons met lege magen en vragende blikken achter. De menukaart werd haast ceremonieel weer weggehaald, zoals een tovenaar die een truc onthult.

Je moet het Jan nageven, het café heeft een gevoel voor humor. Het personeel, hoewel in een soort slaaptoestand, lijkt altijd klaar voor een goede grap. Is het hun geheime tactiek om de klanten te verwarren en te vermaken? Wie zal het zeggen!

Kortom, Stadscafé Jan is als een droom: verwarrend, een beetje vreemd, maar op de een of andere manier grappig. Kom voor de drankjes, blijf voor de onverwachte draaien en bochten, en misschien, als de sterren op één lijn liggen, krijg je zelfs iets te eten.
