Just like La Cucina Italiana Della Nonna
Izi is much more than dining. From the moment you enter, you feel the welcoming warmth, comfort and positive energy of the staff, that enhances the soothing Zen waterfalls trickling down the windows and the cozy ambiance.
You are not a customer in this Italian casa, you are like family, which has the benefit of Izi’s traditional Italian kitchen, which includes homemade pasta like Nonna’s.
The entire staff and owner work together to take care of their guests, providing exceptional attentive service, graciously ensuring that guests have everything needed, in a very timely fashion, without asking or waiting. Izi is not on Island time, like many restaurants, unless you want it to be.
The pride and joy of this gem is exemplified by Alan, the owner, who’s warm caring personality, genuine interest in people, and bright happy smile, made us feel well taken care of and at home. You can tell when someone truly loves what they do, and Alan’s passion for food and people is evident in every aspect of his casa's operation.
The menu has the best selections of Italian classics making it easy to want several entrees. To narrow down the contenders, Alan provided perfect recommendations, including homemade gnocchi which was so fresh it melted in our mouths. The bolognese, topped with fresh herbs, and grated parmesan was divine. Compliments to the Chef for the perfect balance of herbs, and for not over salting the food as so many do. Additional accolades for the high-quality of the food with culinary artistic attention to detail.
In addition to the staff ensuring that we had everything we wanted, Alan also kindly went over and above to accommodate us, down to squeezing his last orange to satisfy my request for citrus.
The fabulous food and atmosphere, attentive care and professionalism of the staff and Alan made our dinner a 5-star experience. Their genuine dedication to hospitality will keep guests returning on a regular basis.
Thank you Alan and the entire staff for everything and...
Read moreUpdate 9/29/24 I was so excited to be getting back to my favorite Italian restaurant in St. Maarten, it’s been over 8 years (due to Irma & Covid).
The restaurant liked the same but it is now under a different ownership, Andy who was so awesome in his greeting, spending time at the table and conversations. Her really shows a great deal of passion in what his love of running Izi is all about!
Our waiter, “Sebastian (maniscalco) R.” LOL was awesome in how he presented himself at our table of 6, in his conversations and recommendations and his delivery and timing of our dinner. He was just super!!!!
We started off with the amazing Izi Antipasto with plenty of items to enjoy! The Ceaser salad was crisp and delicious with a nice blend of cheese and garlic with the croutons.
For dinner, I had the Rigatoni Amatriciana ( which used to be on the menu and was specially made for me). The generous and hearty position of my dinner was so enjoyed as I scooped using my fork one Rigatoni at a time and enjoyed it piece piece by piece. The said pasta was loaded up with assorted shellfish in a delicious red sauce. The Linguini Vongole was a generous portion of pasta loaded with clams in their shell and the sauce was thoroughly enjoyed. The shrimp Risotto was amazing, delicious with a wonderful taste of truffle as well.
I highly recommend Izi as a must for an amazing dinner while in St. Maarten. I can’t wait to return! Thank you Andy for being so hospitable and lots of fun. And special thanks to Sebastian who took total charge of our dining experience, you were on the top of your game!!!! Keep up the great work!

Read moreThe night we visited here was our last dinner on the island and we wanted it to be special. We were torn between this place and another nearby Italian spot but ultimately chose this one. Initially I was disappointed when we walked in to see it so empty inside and though the decor was nice, it felt something was missing. Part of me wished we went with the beachfront where we cancelled our alternate reservations.
Thankfully our server Bernice was awesome. Actually the whole staff was amazing. Everyone was friendly and at some point, it seemed like every server came over and said hello.
I ordered the Caesar salad and Mediterranean sea bass filet. We devoured the bread and crackers that came to our table before the meal came. So fast that we asked for more, but by then the food was coming out.
My food was ok, but what made this visit really special for me was the way they helped us celebrate our anniversary! When I called to make the reservation I was asked if we were celebrating anything special and I mentioned our anniversary, since it was the day prior.
After our meals were done we ordered dessert. We went with the dulce de leche crepe.
A few minutes later, the lights suddenly went off and the DJ begins playing Shivers by Ed Sheeran. Bernice and other servers came to our table with our dessert and a sparkler. They completely caught me off guard and I was so excited! It definitely made us feel special and was the perfect finish to an...
