We have visited the Oudeland several times in the past two years, including for special occasions such as our wedding anniversary, and have always been impressed by the quality and service. Unfortunately, this year, we had to make slight compromises in terms of quality and significant reductions in terms of service and general conditions. Having to sit in the front main entrance area, where you have to wear sunglasses (in case you have any with you) for more than two hours due to the low-lying sun, is very annoying. We also had the misfortune of sitting in the area where it was almost constantly blowing in through the open sliding doors (to keep the temperature in this area within bearable limits because of the glass roof). This left me choosing to either protect myself with additional clothing - inappropriate for the temperature under the glass roof - or accept the constant exposure to cold air. Not a pleasant start. In such cases, sun protection on the glass roof should be a means of choice. We chose the 3-course menu but realised that my wife didn't like the starter at all, as at least two main ingredients are never part of our diet. This is, of course, an individual problem. However, it became a service problem when we asked to swap this starter for my wife for a starter from the 4-course menu, even if we had to pay extra. We were very disappointed that this was refused entirely without explanation. However, the staff tried to adapt the starter a little and swap the ingredients but with only moderate success in terms of flavour. Apart from that, the attention of the Oudeland staff was good as usual, so we left the restaurant...
Read moreI had a disappointing evening here and in hindsight left a review which was more harsh than warranted. This is an edited version with some of the harshness toned down because I agree with the restaurant team that I should have tried to resolve it in person first instead of posting the review.
Review: I saw the ratings and I went here expecting one of the best meals of my life. Unfortunately it turned out to be disappointing. I tried the 4 course surprise menu and boy was I surprised. All the courses were plated well and had a lot of locally sourced ingredients, which was great but that's about where the good things end. The taste was below average at best (except for the main course, which was good). The restaurant needs to focus more on the taste of the food instead of just on the presentation . The service was excruciatingly slow (though the staff is very well mannered). It took about 3 hours for the full meal (restaurant says my account was created at 8.39, but I actually reached the restaurant at 8.20 and it took them 19 mins to come get my order, which is part of the slow service I am pointing out). I was traveling solo and was hoping to spend another couple of hours on the beach at night, but my time got wasted here. Ended up paying 82 euros for the meal plus 2 glasses of wine- so the restaurant is not exactly cheap and I felt doubly robbed given that the food...
Read moreAugust 2024 The Oudeland is and continues to be our favourite restaurant on Texel. We celebrated our wedding anniversary here for the third year in a row and were not disappointed this time either. The reception was pleasantly warm; all the Oudeland staff took great care of us and were highly attentive. Last but not least, our menu was cleverly composed; each course was rounded off with delicious flavours and the wines were of the usual high quality. Thanks to the whole team - and we'll be back next year.
August 2023 Having already enjoyed the surprise menu at the Oudeland for our wedding anniversary last year, it was a no-brainer for us to celebrate this special occasion there again. And we were not disappointed! The 4-course menu was excellent and varied, the matching wines a delight and the service outstanding, just like last year. We are already looking forward to our next visit to...
