I lived in Wassenaar for 3 years. I was an expat high school student. That was 15 years ago. I can vividly remember the brothers behind the bar serving food and drinks. I also remember a female server with red hair. She was always so kind to me in those early days. I was very lonely, moving abroad. But Broeders always cheered me up. Eventually, Holland became my favorite place I ever lived while being international.
My family still talks about Broeders to this day. I don’t know if they still have the same items on the menu, but the goat cheese salad was AMAZING! We have tried to re-create it so many times at home, only to be disappointed it was not Broeder’s quality. Burgers and fries were good hangover cures. I hated pea soup, but loved Broeders. It was chunky, yet smooth somehow with smokey sausage. Bitterballens! Cesar salad with grilled salmon was fresh and filling. Caprese sandwich with house-made pesto! My mom and I would share a tuna sandwich and goat cheese salad. My dad and I enjoyed a cold Heineken and burgers or steak and frites. The gravy over steak was buttery and made the world stop for a second!
My mom would send me to pick up a few items at Albert Hein on Saturdays. I used to save my allowance and stop in after the lunch crowd died down. I would sit by myself with a good book, enjoy a cappuccino and order whatever the dessert special was. I remember their desserts being decadent. This is one of my greatest memories of my teenage years. The dark interior and farmhouse decor was so relaxing to me. Watching the people walk by on Laangstraat on a chilly/sunny day while they ran errands. Then, I would get tulips from the flower truck. My belly would be full and happy with Broders chocolate cake or pie, as I picked my flowers out.
I’m so glad to see Broeders is still in business. Thank you for the wonderful memories and food to last me a lifetime! I hope to return one day. It is my dream to bring my own family! Sending love and wish you continued success from Houston, Texas in the...
Read moreHad a lovely dinner - meat of the day for me (beef Rendang & chips), satay chicken for my friend, burger, carbonara & nuggets for the kids. All very delicious, staff very friendly, beer cold and extremely welcome after a day of rides & slides.
The menu was in Dutch (this is Holland after all!) but there’s a handy feature on Google translate where you take a picture of words & it translates them for you: job done. A foreign menu in a foreign country is NOT a reason to mark a restaurant down!

Read moreGreat visit and dinner at broders, food was amazing, steak cooked perfectly, and very tasty. Although I wouldn’t recommend the jack daniels sauce.. Chicken satay and carbonara also nice. We didn’t stay for dessert as lots of more interesting places in this town for that. Also liked that tap water was free.. Menu was in Dutch but employees offered to translate and all spoke fluent English - but the menu is easy to understand if your not dumb. Toilet facilities...
