We booked a table for 6 via the restaurant’s website, for the same day. Family from South Africa are going back tomorrow (next day) and we wanted something close by. When we arrived, I felt as though they did not seem prepared for our arrival even though we made a reservation, but our group was quickly accommodated with minimal fuss. The restaurant was bustling on a Friday at 7pm - this would be typical for the holiday season. The staff all spoke Dutch, English and some, Italian of course. I would presume Hindi could be accommodated as well.
We ordered mains and drinks and all was really good. We received bruschetta with a really good, fresh tomato and basil salsa topping.
The star of the evening though has to be the owner (I think!) plus his staff for the evening. After asking where we were from, they played a South African song which hit all the feels for our family, followed by more recognisable international pop music. They danced and appeared to genuinely enjoy the (SA) music playing - which for us added to the enjoyment and the special moment of the evening, ahead of our goodbyes.
Thank you, Team Da Alfio in Wassenaar, for the memories! We enjoyed your space, your welcoming nature and your delicious Limoncellos! 🙏🇿🇦 we will be back soon, to share your “gees” with our South...
Read moreFood was good and served quickly, very standard "Italian" menu at a good price, all the classics were listed. Down at 3 stars due to the service, such a shame as it could easily have been 5 stars with a bit more effort. We were served by who we think is the owner, lots of examples of lack of care or effort from not placing food, drinks, bill on the table and waiting for us to take the items despite the table being within easy reach, getting the order wrong (we asked for a jug of tap water and were served bottled, at 5.50 euro per bottle you may see why tap water was our choice especially with 3 kids) and dismissing my wife's question as to why she'd been given zero sugar 7up instead of normal 7up with "we don't serve zero sugar" despite it being printed on the bottle. He was adamant and didn't want to listen. Shame but he didn't seem to understand that part of working in the hospitality industry is being hospitable. PS we did get our tap water after asking 2 other servers as didn't want a second mineral water and were charged 1.75 euro for "jug of tap water service" - never seen or heard of this before! Maybe it was a bad night as the other reviews don't match our experiences but it wasn't that busy and the service was quick, with a bit more effort it would...
Read moreBooked this for 5 of us, 4 adults and 1 child for 7pm. We were seated quickly but then had to ask for menus. After about 15 minutes we had to ask to order, and then we were waiting until 8pm for our mains. The childrens pasta arrived at the same time as all of the other food which wasn't ideal for a hungry 3 year old. The food was okay. Some dishes nicer than others. The childrens pasta was nice, as was the spaghetti bolognaise. The prawns in spicy sauce for mains was nice but the seafood risotto was disappointing. The seafood was cooked well but the risotto wasn't like any risotto I've had before. It was quite liquidity and not creamy at all. Very disappointed after reading all of the wonderful reviews online. I honestly won't return again as the service was so slow and the food did not...
