Having just arrived in Wassenaar, tired from my journey, I decided to get a quick bite to eat. Having sat down and been given just enough time to pick up the menu, a young waitress came to take my order, I asked for another minute or 2 to make a decision. 30 seconds later and older lady came to my table to ask for my order. I asked how she was, as is customary in a polite society, she then told me about her bad tooth that had been removed and antibiotics that she had finally been prescribed, this rendered her unable to smile and laugh, I appreciate an honest answer to the question of how are you, most people respond with, fine how are you? regardless of how they actually are. I had decided the Burger would be fine so ordered it, the lady then asked if I would like a drink, to which I replied a white wine, house. She started to tell me how great the house white was, after which, I asked the audacious question “what is the price?” She told me, and the asked a series of patronising questions about my financial situation. Apparently this lady never asks the price of goods before deciding if she would like to pay that amount for them, she just orders what she wants and then throws a wad of money their way. Suffice to say, I politely said goodbye and chose to eat somewhere else. Perhaps it was her bad tooth that had dampened her mood, or the lack of other customers at the time, or the ongoing roadworks outside of the establishment, or perhaps just that a non infinitely wealthy person had appeared to darken her doorstep. Either way, thanks for the fantastic first impression...
Read moreWe had lunch. The menu doesn’t sell the food very well I felt - it sounds a bit boring, or doesn’t give much away, but actually it was delicious, much better than we expected (which is the best way round!).
Two of the kids (12 & 14) had bolognaise - extremely delicious they said, one (12) had the burger - which looked fab. I had the spicy chicken roll, which wasn’t very spicy (good), came on an interesting roll with salad, fresh pesto, tomato - it was really lovely. My friend had one of the flatbreads - again, delicious!
Staff also lovely - very friendly, had a bit of banter with the kids, really nice.
Highly...
Read moreWe waited for 2 hours to get our tapas, and when we asked what was going on we were told by the waitress she had just checked in the kitchen and that it was just about time. After another half an hour we asked again and it turns out they had lost our order and hadn't been working on anything, but kept telling us it was on its way. Even when we accompanied the waitress to the kitchen she pointed at a ready meal and said it was ours, when clearly it wasn't. We were not taken seriously at all, and were ignored a lot. Not very friendly. We left without...
