Lagom Café — Restaurant in Zaanstad

Great service and great food! I forget his name (my apologies I'm very bad with names) but the male server was very friendly, and though the entire menu wasn't in English he took the time to translate for us and ask all the ingredients from the cook! My wife had the Tropical Twist smoothie(passion fruit & mango and more ingredients I can't remember), and I had the Xtra Energy (strawberry banana). Both were very fresh and decently sized. Then for food she had the traditional breakfast with cheese, croissant, Lagom bread - Viking bread, and butter and a strawberry jam. And my breakfast was a chicken sausage sandwich with arugula, bell peppers, chives, a special sauce which was kind of a flavorful mayo, and some kind of chili sauce similar to sriracha. Everything was absolutely delicious and very fresh and came to a total of around 19 euro I believe. Not to mention it's right around the corner from the train station Zaandam, so if you're in the area and have the time and money definitely give this place a shot! They only opened 4 weeks ago and the food and service are both very good so they deserve every bit of business! The breakfast as well as the coffee selection are fantastic! I rarely use the 5*'s, but here it is even underestimated. During our visit today, we encountered some 'disrespectful' tourists who thought they are the only customers in the café. The café was fully occupied and the staff mentioned that some orders will take more time, which was completely ok (especially after mentioning). Nevertheless those 2 'disrespectful' tourists started annoying not only the staff but also all other customers, I mean after the staff mentioned possible delays they could have left or take a seat and be polite. Imagine 1 person going to the staff again and again to complain, after he finished being rude, he went back to his seat.. the 2nd person went then to the staff and continued where her partner stopped. All of this drama was repeated until they got their order !! The staff stayed completely polite and calm, even after the woman went to the counter and insulted the staff and grabbed the 2 cake slices to her seat.

In short: too slow, unprofessional staff, annoying experience. The waiting time is enormous. We came on Sunday ~11 am. There are simply not enough staff. All tables were full and there were queues for take away. We spent 15 min outside waiting, no one came to bring the menu. So we went inside. We took the menu ourselves. Then our order was accepted (because inside we could at least be noticed by the staff). I asked the waiter is there 1 or 2 espresso in an L cappuccino. The waiter could not understand my question. We ordered L coffees and asked to bring juices first. In 20 min we received the breakfast with juice together (not prior) without fork/knife/spoon. Then they brought us two M-size coffees and a bottle of juice 🤦‍♀️. We said we ordered two L-cappuccino. They remade it. And we asked for utensils. Overall, it was an annoying and time-wasting experience. Almost all the tables around us were complaining about the waiting time or that no one came to accept their orders.
