This place really has to improve. The staff was rude, unfriendly and absolutely unhelpful, dropping things on the table and I could've probably had more attention & eye contact from a plant. We had a table booked, arrived to be asked to wait for 20 minutes which is ludicrous, because otherwise you would not offer to have a table booked for an specific time. Everything went wrong from there. They brought us bread & something that was supposed to be garlic butter but could've been weeks old. The glasses smelled, not clean & had to be changed twice. The salad they brought for 3 of us to share was probably kept in the fridge for days, also a small plate of pasta which had so much oil in it that it might've as well been an oily soup.
The mains were brought with probably 10 min delay between us three, which meant that the first person had already finished by the time the last main was brought.
These mains were absurdly overpriced , for 24 euros each you would expect that the chef/staff might put some effort and try to actually make the experience enjoyable for dinners in general.
We did complain about things but were either dismissed or just treated like they could not give a toss about it all.
I think this is probably why they will not renew their lease to keep this...
Read moreLa Fontanella is one of those 'insider sectrets' and known even among chefs as a great Italian restaurants: It doesn't really look like much from the outside (which makes it a real discovery) and it's being 'overshadowed' by huge appartment blocks, but once inside the cosy atmosphere of an Italian livingroom and the hospitality of it's owner make you feel right at home. No fancy etiquette, but Italian hospitality! Even the most modest Pizza Margarita is divine (for which I gladly drive 10 km to take-away, trying hard to keep the pizza warm on the way home ;-). Sitting at a table under the 'Wall of Fame' with signed photographs of many Formula 1 greats who used to race the once famous Zandvoort Cicuit (and dined at La Fontanella), there's really nothing like it: Excellent food, low prices: One of Zandvoort's busiest and most loved...
