Strandpaviljoen Thalassa - Restaurant — Restaurant in Zandvoort

We feel utterly disrespected by one of the staff. When we sat down, nobody gave us menu. After we requested a menu, he came to us and asked in a strange attitude "Do you want to eat here? Be quick to order. Kitchen is closing." I still thanked him with a smile even if I was already feeling bad. We tried to be considerate so quickly we decided to just order fries and some drinks. When we ordered, he asked with a strange attitude again "Just fries?" I mean if there's a problem, please just tell us. The straight face with inpatient attitude makes us feel very awful. I thought maybe he just doesn't know how to smile. Then I saw him laughing like a flower to people next table. Honestly I don't know how to feel. Because we ordered too little? Because we are not Dutch? Because we are too friendly? So we deserve your bad attitude sir? What's worse, he just threw our fries on the table and even some fell out of the bowl. Are you serving a table or feeding stray dogs? My friend felt exactly the same, if not more. We tried to not let this impact our evening but unfortunately this really hurt us. I am traumatized by this one guy and won't be able to enter this beautiful restaurant again. This is just sad. I hope one day someone can treat him right so he knows...

Don't bother going to this restaurant, if you are a woman traveling alone!

I arrived to the restaurant just before two men. Well, they got immediate service. I got served only when I started to get dressed again & was ready to leave.

I was somewhat hesitant to stay, but decided to place an order only for G&tT for an apetizer and as a first course scallops and fresh bread + white wine.

The men who had entered before me, got served their food very fast.

I waited. And I waited.

Finally, I was served the 8,5 euros bread (no scallops!). I didn't touch the bread, as it was the very cheap kind that you by from wholesale and warm up in oven, and wish your customer is stupid enough to concider it as "fresh" and worth eating.

And I waited. And waited.

When the scallops finally were served, the 2 men had long ago happily eaten. At that point, I just wanted to leave. I ate the 3 scallops, drank part of the wine and asked for the bill.

41 euros I paid and couldn't wait to leave.

Sad. Sad experience.

I need my alone time, but obviously a woman customer alone signals for bad service in some...

It's not easy to be judgemental when the staff is very friendly and helpful. And of course the view over the beach and the central location in Zandvoort is also a big bonus. You can probably sense the "but" around the corner.... When you have the most beautiful beach bar/restaurant in the area and you slap high prices on your products, the quality of those products has to live up to the expectations. And in this case, they don't.... The fresh ginger tea and the homemade lemonade both were so bland, you hardly can taste anything but water with a faint taste of dunno what. Because of the location tourists will be paying extreme prices. But be warned, the quality does not justify these prices. An extra star...
