LaSqala — Restaurant in Zwolle

We had a very bad experience there. This is my first time to write a bad review. After we ordered drinks, we were informed that we could not order food freely and were only able to order the special chef menu with decided courses. But the servant only explained the menu was some vegetables, fish, meat which cost 45 euro per person. There was no paper menu to present what they are and how many courses we will have. We saw customers at the other table watching the menu that can be ordered freely. We asked the servant, and he said that’s because they wanted to order something else except the chef menu. That’s not a reasonable expectation!

We ordered 4 set of Chef menu, the amount of food was a limited. The taste was just normal level even lower than normal. Since we didn’t know what courses were included in the menu, we could only eat what we were served. But we found almost every table was served a dish with kebab but we were not served. We thought there was a possibility that we were treated differently because we were foreigners!

When we paid the bill, that male servant said if you don’t see your phone when you are eating, the taste will be better. We were speechless. First, we didn’t see our phone too much during eating. Second, it’s our freedom to see our phone and it’s none of your business. Third, we didn’t complain a word about that taste of your food, although it’s a fact that the taste is not good but not influenced by whether I scrolled my phone. 🙄Why you gave such a suggestion? Maybe you’re not confident in the taste🙂

I won’t go to this restaurant again. Not recommended! Bad taste, impolite service, high cost...

In short, good food but slow service.

Food I love love love tapas so finding another one in the Netherlands means we had to go. There was lots of choice, vegetarian, fish, meat and it was a nice mix of known tapas from the Mediterranean and new tapas from North Africa. Although I didn't eat the garlic shrimp 🦐 I was told by my friends it was an extreme garlic taste. They did like it though. Overall the food was just really nice.

Service. We were with a big group of 8 people but service was slow. I think it took over an hour after ordering for the food to be brought to the table. Many of us were starving at that point so that was a bit of a bummer. What is nice is that your orders get brought out in phases which means nothing gets cold and you get to share and talk.

Atmosphere It's a nice little restaurant. The music is not too loud and although there's many tables in the restaurant and they were pretty close together it didn't feel too loud. However sitting close to the door meant quite the cold breeze every now and then when people came in hoping to eat here. And that also meant that smoke from people outside came in which is not a nice experience when you're having dinner. If you're sitting further away from the door I expect this to not be an issue.

Unforgettable - after a gorgeous concert, we (2 persons) met yesterday for the first time in real life after being befriended online for quite a while, so we were in celebration mood. Reading the google comments on the welcoming manner of its owner, we decided for LaSqala. We couldn’t have made a better decision. The food was very delicious w/ beautiful sauces and particularly the sweets were outstanding. Cherry on cake was in fact the kind, friendly, attentive manner of the owner who created a great amicable mood, so all guests felt easy & happy.
