Black Cat Cafe — Restaurant in Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community

Decidedly mediocre. We got to the cafe about 12.40 pm. There was virtually nothing in the cabinets and what was there looked as if it had been there for some time. We asked to have a blueberry muffin heated. It came cold and I had to stand at the unmanned counter for a while to ask to have it heated. I ordered English Breakfast tea with full cream milk rather than trim. At first she seemed not to understand what I was asking for then seemed insulted that I had suggested they might use anything else. The pot was tiny. There were at least 5 people working there but they left heating my “quiche” until my husband and niece had got theirs. My husband had the tiramisu which was nice but a small portion for the price. My niece liked the muffin. The quiche was disappointing. It was perhaps a self crusting quiche but it was mostly bread/scone like base that I was dry and it was very salty. There was little sign of egg and mostly the topping was potatoes with a few courgette slices and a few little bits of tomato. They weren’t busy but I definitely got the impression we were inconvenient and hovered to collect our dishes. I thought they must be closing but we went past later on and they were still open and people were still going in. My brother and I stopped by after school to grab a coffee, and we were pleasantly surprised by the variety of sweets they offer,and even bubble tea! My brother tried the Creamy Mango Bubble Tea and absolutely loved it. They also had savory treats like pastries and baklava, so we couldn’t resist trying them all. The sweetness of the baklava and the rich flavor of the spinach pastry completely won me over. Their Americano was also fantastic. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back,especially for the pastries...

A friend and I decided to try black cat cafe, I had ordered a pie which was decent however can’t say the same about the biscoff milkshake. It was extremely milky with no flavour at all. Service was very disappointing. The store was quiet when we arrived and ordered However we waited for at least 15 - 20 mins just for 2 drinks and a pie.
