My friend and I stopped here for an early morning coffee/tea run before a walk and then again for brunch on our last day in Rotarua. They were busy from the time they opened and for good reason. The flood here is great! The decor is cute and quirky -- they have fun little animals nailed to wooden blocks instead of table numbers to identify you for the servers. You seat yourself and order at the counter, and the staff bring you your orders. I was so excited because this was one of the first and few places that served feijoa juice, which is aMaZiNg. They ran fresh feijoa through the juicer, and the result is a slightly brownish drink that looks odd but tastes heavenly. My friend got the avocado with toast and beetroot hummus. I got the Woofer, which was an enormous plate of food including: sausage, streaky bacon x3, pulled brisket, potatos, mushrooms, toast x2, and I think 3 eggs. It was the biggest plate of food I've ever eaten, and I did not finish everything. I did go into a food coma afterwords without any regrets. This is a great breakfast/brunch stop.

During our recent trip to Rotorua, we discovered a gem: Fat Dog Cafe & Bar. The vibrant and quirky decor immediately caught our eye, creating a fun and relaxed atmosphere. 🌟 The staff were incredibly welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we stepped in. We decided to start our day with a refreshing orange juice and a perfectly brewed coffee. 🍊☕ The orange juice was fresh and zesty, a perfect pick-me-up for a morning adventure. The coffee, rich and aromatic, provided the ideal caffeine kick to get us going. We couldn't help but savor every sip, enjoying the lively ambiance around us. The menu offered a delightful range of options, catering to various tastes and dietary preferences. 🥐🥑 Whether you're in the mood for a hearty breakfast, a light snack, or something more substantial, Fat Dog Cafe & Bar has you covered. We loved the generous portions and the attention to detail in every dish. If you find yourself in Rotorua, make sure to stop by Fat Dog Cafe & Bar for a truly enjoyable dining experience!

Real disappointed. I talked this place up to my partner because it used to be amazing and I loved the food here. Came in over the weekend and couldn’t be more disappointed. I unfortunately didn’t get a photos of my food before removing over half of it onto a small plate. My bacon was so burnt you couldn’t even cut it. That burnt black stuff under the bacon is supposed to be potatoes, looks like they scraped the bottom of the deep fryer and put it into my plate. I had to ask for more bread as mine was absolutely saturated and soggy from the tomato juice slapped on my plate. Honestly such a disappointment. The poor girl who was working was just stunned when I asked her for a piece of bread, she didn’t even know what to say. Can’t say I’d ever recommend this place to anyone anymore. Such a disappointment.

HASHED CORNED BEEF - Must have dish here. What a pleasant surpirse of a cafe situated within Rotorua CBD. We made our way in as there was alot of diners in this establishment and it did not disappoint. The staff were friendly and welcomed us with a smile. The environment was quirky in a good way, heaps of colour throughout and a pleasant environment to dine in. The highlight of this place was the corned beef menu. The flavours infused throughout the corned beef with the caramelized onions in it, complemented by the poached egg. The coffee here was the best in terms of flavour i had during our visit in town, in terms of strength of the coffee it hit the spot for me! Will be back again next time im back in Rotorua!

This is a great breakfast place if you are super hungry! We stopped here for breakfast on our way up to Auckland and the portions are perfect. I ordered Belgian waffles with a Picolo drink (super cute) and my hubby some eggs, bacon, french toast and a smoothie. Everything was DELICIOUS, we both left very satisfied. The reason why i placed a 4/5 is because the place was a little dirty..they have guests pick their own utensils and we ended with some that needed another washing. Some tables were wobbly and there were little birdies flying around in the place nibbling on crumbs off of tables and the floor. Outside of the unkempt look, this cafe is a great place to go for the hungry belly :)

Cool spot with busy lively atmosphere and funky decor. Couple of disappointing aspects on the food: 1) There is no real Gluten Free option or much consideration for other dietary needs. 2) The scrambled eggs were pretty tasteless and wet, with some liquid running from them onto the plate. None of the staff asked me for any feedback about my food as I ate or when finished. Staff also didn't offer alternatives or seem to take action from the feedback about lack of GF options on the menu. As a side note: If you opt not to have the toast you don't get any money off but you do still get the butter.
