Love the idea of share plates. This was the first place that I experienced share plates, and it was overall a pleasant experience. The greatest con was the price for the quantity which was a little steep. Spice rubbed lamb rump; lamb was very soft and chewy, taste was infused lightly but nevertheless delicious. The tapenade a lovely touch, with an interesting texture (reminiscent of mince)-I was expecting mince. Chargrilled peppered beef sirloin; asked to be made medium rare, and it was prepped very nicely, a great assortment of sauces and vegetables. Too bad the portion was the smallest out of the bunch yet the price was the steepest! The beef was soft and the vegetables not over cooked and well marinated with sauce. I just really didn't have enough to eat. Roti pulled pork summer slaw; the dish in which I had the highest expectations but was the most disappointed. The pulled pork had flavor but the meat itself was dry and a bit tough. The summer slaw was a bummer, nothing special about the slaw and I really did not want to be served rice at a European dining, and the vegetables on the side were very average. Asian fusion? Not a direction this restaurant should take. Fresh fish pan fried; lastly added this one on since we were still hungry. I hadn't had high expectations but this really was the star of the show! The fish was delicious as was everything paired with it! The fish was soft and filled with moisture, tasted fresh and flavorful. The salad was also equally as delicious, the caper salsa and lemon flavors meshed so well together, paired with the bean and topped with almond, it was glorious! I loved it so much I even tried recreating the flavors and texture at home (with some lentils, spinach,...
Read moreWe had two dishes that tasted good, three that we didn’t rate and two cocktails that weren’t good. This is across three people. Our waiter never checked how our meals were. Or did the manager when we were paying and when my partner asked if he was going to was told to write down any complaints on a piece of paper. Also, the manager when we arrived, couldn’t make up his mind as to whether or not he could accommodate three without a reservation. I could see at a glance four empty tables. Some with “reserved” signs on remained empty from the time we arrived, throughout our meal, and until we left. Now my biggest gripe with this place is that they take the liberty of lecturing you about how you should order at the beginning and the gist of it is that their dishes are all for sharing: yet NOTHING is of the size that you can realistically share it. We let hungry because I refused to order anything else as it was all laughable. They give you tongs to portion out your 1.3333333 slice of protein per dish and a dessert spoon to portion up the hummus or, more likely, the slaw which many meals come with. Of course, because cabbage costs next to nothing. I’ve never left a google review before but it was to the point where we were chuckling whenever anything got put on the table. And it would be funny but the bill was $199 for 2x cocktails, 2x small dishes, 3 times “large” dishes and we had to stop and buy something to eat on the way back to our hotel. Seriously punching above their weight and delusional think their dishes are substantial enough for sharing. Great if...
Read moreWe went to Atticus Finch for dinner for the first time, on Friday night. We were greeted by a lovely waitress, and for the rest of the evening the service was fantastic. The restaurant is a bit drab & tired but that's ok we were excited for our food after reading some of the reviews. Unfortunately it didn't stack up to our expectations.....
We ordered 3 x small plates + a main meal..... Risotto balls, out came 4 x pieces that were no bigger then golf balls....while they were yum, they were tiny & the sauce with them tasted watered down. For the price of them we were horrified!
Seared beef, this was 'OK', not overly flavorsome, the meat was cooked well & it was a better serving size than the Risotto balls.
Grilled Hollumi, this was most definitely the nicest thing we ordered. It was full of flavor, the salad was delicious, and it was a good portion. A little overpriced for what it was, but very very nice.
Chicken Shawama, this is the meal we we're so gutted about. I know what a traditional Shawama is & have had many many times. But this read differently on the menu and was advertised as a 'main meal' so we thought it would come out as a beautiful deconstructed plate of food. But unfortunately out came these bizarre wraps, filled with an unusual cinnamon tasting chicken, some mushy cooked lettuce & a couple of bits of tomato. To the side was oddly needed bits of pickled vege & a watery tasting sauce. Take away the vege and sauce, it was like something you'd order from a food truck. It was terrible and for $37 or $38, we were...
