Gather Cafe Papamoa — Restaurant in Bay of Plenty

Considerably underwhelmed from high expectations. The cabinet food look amazing however, but I decided on ordering breakfast. On route, my meal was plonked on another table even though I was issued with a number. It was then plonked in front of me to which said ‘thank you’- no reply . Perhaps she didn’t hear me? So again, “thank you!” - completely ignored! The staff of which there were many, appeared uninterested in even being there. No greetings, no smiles , no interaction, nothing! The fried eggs were undercooked and I scooped the gelatinous see through uncooked egg to my plate’s side. When my plate was cleared I mentioned “oh the eggs were undercooked” -no reply. Nothing. I can’t recommend Gather Café enough! The coffee here is hands down the creamiest I’ve ever tasted—pure perfection every single time. The barista is absolutely amazing; their skill and attention to detail are unmatched. I’m totally hooked and can’t go anywhere else!

They use Alpro coconut milk, which takes the coffee to another level—it’s the best I’ve tried. As a regular customer, I feel so valued here. This morning, they had even saved the last of the chai for me because they know my order so well. They often start making my coffee as soon as I walk in, and it’s ready in a flash.

Next time I just wish I’d got the cabinet food. It looked incredible. I prefer simple classics when I go out for breakfast. The meals we got were just kind of average. Small portions and just doing too much. Don’t get wrong they looked incredible but just not really substantial. My boyfriend got the chilli eggs, which is exactly how it sounds, eggs on toast with chilli. I got the hash stack which was nice enough but no protein unless you add +4 for a poached egg. I think the price should include the egg or two.
