Black & White Coffee Cartel — Restaurant in Canterbury

Very disappointing experience, I took 11 older people for a coffee and treat, we do this weekly so go to several different places. 11 people ordered food and a drink, I just got a coffee, there was a confusion over a cappuccino, it appeared to be a extra or wrong order as we were waiting for two lattes, they left it on the table and said someone could have it as it would just go to waste. The next thing they came over with all the coffee receipts and proceeded to go through all the orders with me. The cafe was quite busy, the other customers were staring at me, which was very uncomfortable, they said they had made all the coffees ordered, they hadn’t made mine which I had ordered and paid for, they weren’t going to make it for me because of the extra cappuccino that they just left on the table, they were expecting me to pay for mine again to cover the mucked up cappuccino, I’m not sure if the muck up was our mistake or theirs, I know things are hard out there but come on …. Not happy to make me my paid for latte when you had just had all those coffee and food orders and humiliate me in front of all the other customers…. Very rude unfriendly staff, we will...

Great selection of food. I was there 28/5/2024. I placed my order for coffee and food which was a while coming but just as I was wondering what had happened to it one of staff came over and apologised for it taking so long and handed me a card for a complimentary coffee. This is a brilliant strategy and I appreciate the gesture. The coffee was nice and the muffin I had was fresh. The staff were pleasant, friendly and smiled. This is the service I like to see from a business but sadly is not common enough. The best compliment I can pay a business is to say I will be returning and will recommend it to other people which I will do for Black and White Coffee in Kaiapoi. Have been to the new Kaiapoi Black & White a number of times (we do not live local and have our own Black & White in walking distance but enjoy this one more) and even recommended to a number of people for great coffee, food and service, even went for lunch on my birthday but this all changed when we went one Saturday afternoon for coffee and hot chips. We walked in and ordered and the clock just ticked over to 2pm and were told the kitchen was closed. I know it closes at 2 but there was no consultation with the kitchen just a straight no.
