Red Eight Cafe — Restaurant in Canterbury

The food was quite good, but the service was pretty awful. A stinking hot day and we asked for a bottle of water with our meal. Advised to get one from the fridge. None in the fridge. You would think this might have been a trigger to fill up some jugs for other customers on a 30 degree day?No. The waitress really didn’t want to be there, was very sour and thumped coffees on the table like we were a nuisance. I was asked if we wanted some ice for the glasses, said yes thanks, never got it. Flies landing on the table, which was dirty when we sat down. The noise of the machines being used (maybe for smoothies etc?) was so loud we struggled to have a conversation. Although the food itself was quite nice we wouldn’t return based on the rest of the experience. Had been going there for quite a while and was great. We went there last week and wont be going back. We both got chicken pizza - I cant eat red meat. Couldn't find any chicken in mine and the very nice waitress said she would give us a piece to take home. The owner? came and looked at my husband's and showed him 2 tiny pieces of what she said was smoked chicken. On leaving my husband requested the piece he was told he could have and refused. Was in yesterday with friend at 1.30ish. Got a very small salad for $13.50. Wasn't alot of taste. But the worst thing was not feeling welcomed the girl who was at counter was uninterested, she seemed like she didn't want to be there. My friend arrived slightly after me. And also commented on the rudness of the girl. She kind of threw plates and drinks on table. Nice spot, nice atmosphere. Food ok but pricey. But staff makes all the difference.
