Black & White Coffee Cartel — Restaurant in Canterbury

Not one to leave reviews usually but after this experience sadly feel the need. Went for mothers day & booked an 11.30am table. Was pretty excited as we dont eat out much so a special treat for ourselves and 2 kids. We arrived & had to queue up to be told it's a 40min wait on food as ppl kept pouring in the door ordering & waiting on tables! Nothing we could do as I'd booked & being mothers day had no other options. We ordered & after waiting for seats to be brought to the table that had no seats we waited. 10mins before coffees finally arrived. 40min for the 7yr olds meal - overcooked nuggets, then slowly husband meal came - eggs benedict with more bread then eggs, sauce or bacon and then mine, overcooked crunch waffles and undercooked bacon plus a burnt on top (in no way caramelised) banana arrived. No sign of the 10yr olds meal another 10min went by in which time everyone had eaten & he snacked on our leftovers. Then had to queue to find out what was going on and they had forgotten his meal completly!!! Got a refund on his meal finally as wernt willing to wait another 15min for his to be made when everyone had eaten. Def a disappointing day and staff really ddnt seem to care about our hungry child, meal was well below expectations after reading great reviews & sadly won't be back or recommend. Very unorganized for a day that was always going to be busy and clearly showed in the meals themselves. A $92 meal wasn't worth the wait...

A mixed bag of good and bad here. This is not our first time at this store but the first time that we sat in. The selection of food was good and we were looking forward to our lunch when it arrived. But what we ordered was sent to the table a bit at a time. First my coffee arrived within a few minutes, but then our food arrived almost 5 minutes later with my bacon and egg pie scorching hot, but the panini barely lukewarm. And we had almost finished our food when the last drink arrived at the table, a cold chocolate drink that looked amazing.

When we enquired about our last drink after waiting 15 minutes and almost finishing our food, we were told that it was still being prepared and would be with us soon, but there was no apology for the time taken to make it and although it was Sunday lunchtime, it wasn't that busy with people and there were plenty of empty tables.

Would think twice about going back now when theres a Robert Harris just...

I visited Rolleston for the first time in years to find the town had had a massive population explosion 🤭In line with this there were many new shopping complexes with cafés, Black and White Coffee ☕ is one such café..and what a find 👌 The greeting was open, welcoming and friendly 😀 (I went back twice on the same day☕ ) Shop was warm, clean and the customers were happy 😊 they seemed regulars. Super selection of cabinet food, covering vegetarian, gluten-free and allergy options, the menu options were delicious 😋, and owners happy to adjust to the needs of customers choices. I was impressed that they willingly and happily made my hot cocoa drink ☕This is a wonderful addition to Rolleston, with lovely owners who work hard to make this a successful part of the community.
