"Don't judge a book by its cover", is quite an appropriate way to describe Quartz. It doesn't look like much on the outside but as soon as you enter, the atmosphere is immediate. Cool, suave with perfect lighting, if that was the best this place had to offer, it would be better than a lot of other places I've been to. But thankfully it wasn't. The service was friendly and real, the menu at a glance, wasn't pretentious, just solid. But when the food arrived ... WOW. Taste, portion size and the pricing were amazing. We had the chicken poppers, seafood chowder and garlic flat bread to start. All were delicious. We followed that with the Pork Belly, Steak, chips and eggs (2 by the way), and the Crumbed Beef Schnitzel. All fantastic and perfectly cooked. The size of the Pork Belly was 2 or 3 times the size of a normal restaurant serving but probably $10 cheaper. (Highly recommend this dish).
The drinks were also a lot cheaper than most other restaurants with a glass of wine going for $11 which is a decent saving from the standard $15 to $18 at other places.
In the current economic climate, value for money is huge and this place provides that in spades. Every patron leaving the restaurant had takeaway containers which should tell you all you need to know about their portion sizes.
All in all, Quartz gets an A+++ in all departments. My first visit certainly won't be my last. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in or...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHad a 4"9 long blonde haired young waitress service us. I explained my dietary problem of recent gastric bypass surgery only can eat eat mashed potatoes & gravy. Can I have that as a side order, even if they served it on a kids plate. Waitress declined me rudely stating chef doesn't do side orders. "Can you go ask?". With poor attitude went & asked (assumingly), returned & declined me. Have a look at their menu!!! They do do side orders! This waitress turned & walked off without sorting out my order! I told her to come back & told her she needed more training because her whole attitude was totally unprofessional. To cut a long story short another waitress & not the manager came over & sorted it out. NO APOLOGIES!! YOU SUCK...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food and service were amazing! We shared the prawns, scallops, and the mussels with hot fresh baked garlic loaf bread. The prawns came in a delicious buttery sauce with herbs and spices. The scallops were served with little bites of sausage and a spicy pesto sauce. The mussels were served with a creamy tomato sauce and hot rye bread. Would definitely recommend this place. There is a good looking rock bar next door, but you should eat here before heading over.
p.s. I wrote the above before we had dessert.... pineapple cheesecake was hands down the best. It was light and fluffy goodness with bits of pineapple lumps interspersed throughout served with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with warm...
