Columbus Coffee — Restaurant in Christchurch

Originally a 1 star review, now changed to four stars. After my review, I was able to get in touch with Meg, the manager of this cafe. She is taking steps to address the issues I raised and was very thankful for me taking the time to have a phone call with her. I really got the impression that she cares about the cafe and its customers. I'm looking forward to my next visit to hopefully see some of these changes implemented.

Original review: This was one of my favourite cafes. Not anymore. A few weeks ago I went there with my husband for coffee and a slice. The coffee was just hot brown water and the replacement coffee wasn't much better. Unfortunately my last visit was even worse. I took my parents, both in their late 80s, for lunch. I had booked in advance a table for 3 people and we got a table for 2 people. Then they placed us at a table where we were blinded by the sun. Lucky for us other guests left and we could relocate to a better table. Then my Dad got the wrong drink, iced chai instead of chai latte. He couldn't drink that and after complaining he finally got his hot chai latte. That we paid for the more expensive iced chai didn't seem to bother anyone. When the food came my Mum's dish was cold, not even lukewarm. Because she is too nice and doesn't want to bother she ate it like it was. Last but not least a table near ours was full with dirty dishes during the whole time of our stay. Not happy,...

Unfortunately we arrived on a Sunday 27th September logged in at approx 1300 and sat at a spare cluttered table with used plates and cutlery.

After a page if time a waitress did appeared and cleared other empty tables

When a waitress inally cleared these utensils from out table she seemed distracted and in her hast she dropped a cup which splattered the remaining contents over a nearby seat without an apology.

We waited for the waitress to come back after clearing the table to wipe it off but this did not happen nor did she wipe up the split coffee remains.

There was a loud noise of crockery being loaded into a dishwasher but more noise than necessary.

The only person who acknowledged us was a person behind the counter but she was busy making coffees.

We chose not to remain and left.

Not a good experience at all as not only dirty but no customer...

Totally unsatisfied, the food is way over priced, particularly the cold drinks. The lunch menu was very uninviting and what I did have was bland. The service was decidedly average and I do not appreciate being lied to. On one hand you have an over complicated menu on the other the only type of pie you have is horrible old mince and cheese, and with the décor all over the place what is it you are trying to achieve? Oh and coffee regardless of what type it is should always be served in a ceramic cup/mug not a glass. Why? Because a ceramic cup/mug insulates from the hot liquid also it has a handle to protect from burning the holder unlike the glass you serve hot coffee in which does not insulate and does not have a handle which makes it a serious health and...
