13/11/2018 - We went there for dinner as the kids want to eat their sweet and sour pork, which is quite good and delicious. We decided to try something different and we ordered the two different soups; chicken corn soup and spicy sour vegetarian soup. The soup come with one size (except for the dumpling soup which comes in two sizes). The chicken corn soup's texture was thick and strong with the chicken flavour (which is a good thing). The texture for the other soup was also thick but not spicy enough.
We also ordered green beans with black fungus and stir fried duck breast with vege. Both dishes were flavoursome and nice. The green beans were a bit on the softer side, and not crunchy. The stir fried duck breast with vege was a delicious dish, and came with a generous amount of duck breast slices. The sauce was on the salty side but it goes well with the duck breast slices and plain rice.
The bill came to $86.52 which includes the 3% credit card surcharge.
This is a licensed eatery and you can order alcoholic drinks 🍻. There is no outdoor area and smoking 🚬 is [definitely] not inside the building.
Street parking 🅿 only.
They accept cash, EFTPOS and credit card payments (sadly, Paywave is not available), for those who want to know.
Staff is friendly enough but feels like they are feeling tired and blurry (i.e. lack of energy 😴).
Would I go back? Yes 😏 Would I recommend? Yes 😊
Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The flavour is consistent 😋. Ambience: ⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. Typical Asian restaurant setting; basic and simple. Price: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. Reasonable pricing compared to other Chinese eateries in Christchurch.
3/08/2018 - We were contemplating whether to try the newly opened Gengy's on Cranford Street or try this restaurant. We ended up choosing this as Gengy's was packed with people. Anyway, we glad that we made the right choice 😁👍.
This restaurant is situated on Papanui Road, sandwiched between the Vietnamese restaurant and a liquor store. It is not hard to spot it, as the frontage is decorated with lots of red and yellow signage.
The parking was a problem as there's only street parking and no dedicated car parks available. So, prepare for a bit of walk if there is no parking nearby.
The restaurant can cater single to a large group of people, with square and round tables (with lazy susans). The dining area is located immediately after you walk in the front door while the cashier counter is located in the middle of the building.
Anyway, the staff greeted us with a smile and showed us to the table after asking us about the number of diners. The menu is full of different dishes (which you can download from their website) and we decided on; Stir fried mixed vegetables (very delicious and flavoursome), sliced lamb with coriander (a bit disappointed as the taste is average compared with other restaurants. It was cooked with other vegetables such as beans, Chinese vegetable and carrots, which is not suppose to be for coriander lamb), sweet and sour pork (definitely a good one, the coating was not thick and hard), and lemon chicken (the lemon sauce was not too sweet and easy to eat with the fried chicken pieces). We also ordered rice for 4 people. The portion sizes are commensurate with the pricing. Overall, it was marvellous and yummy 😋. We enjoyed the dinner very much.
The bill came to NZD $92.50, as they charged 3% on top of the normal bill. Cash and normal Eftpos (debit card purchases) do not get any additional charges.

10 June 2022. As always Stella and the China Kitchen team, were awesome. I drive from South/West Christchurch to them, every time I want to eat Chinese food. Well worth the drive.
Ordered 4 dishes for 2 of us, so ended up with a takeaway of left overs.
Superb beef fillet dish, wontons, garlic & chilli prawns and a lamb dish. So yummy. All that and fizzy drinks were very reasonable at $50 for each of us.
Such a clean and tidy restaurant to eat at.
They are in Papanui, close by the service station, near the Northlands Mall.
