The food here is awesome! If you are in the St. Albans area, definitely give this place a try.

I recommend the Prawn Star with rice - the prawns were so good and flavourful, and very good portion size for the price ($22). I would like to note that if you prefer quite thin noodles (think Singaporean style kind of thin-ness?), having the Prawn Star with the noodles could be for you, but I personally prefer thicker noodles and quite enjoy the fried rice.

I've previously had the beef croquettes, sweet and sour pork, and prawns and chorizo pasta - I think I would recommend Prawn Star out of these, and I'll definitely be trying more over time.

We really enjoyed the dumplings that were on the specials menu on Friday! They were pretty much perfect - the skin had a very satisfying thickness/texture and the sauce complimented the dumplings very well. I currently feel these are the best dumplings that I've had in Christchurch, and I've been to pretty much all notable places in town that sell dumplings. I hope they are permanent!!

Service was good, they are polite and friendly, and you can see them make your food - I note that the kitchen is very clean.

Very happy this place has opened up close to where I live. Saw a post about it on social media - definitely a hidden gem, loved the food here and it brightens up my day. Would recommend...

Detailed review: Website is reasonable easy to use/navigate. Though I'd prefer a little more descriptions for some items. There were vegetarian options on the menu, though there were primarily meat focused options. Customer service was amazing. I was late for picking up my order, but the person was very friendly, and quick. I ordered the chicken burger, sweet & sour pork, teriyaki chicken, fries and spring rolls. The burger was surprisingly good. Best thing out of the whole order. The teriyaki chicken bowl could've easily fed two people. Everything else was pretty good too, considering the price, and reasonably big portion sizes. The location is a bit odd, but I don't mind. The store itself is also quite small, with only a couple of places for you to sit. If I remember correctly there was a small ramp at the entrance. So could possible use a wheelchair, pram, etc. to access the store, though it may easily get crowded. Overall I think this place is great if you need a solid meal for under $20. I had the pleasure of dining at Whale Eatery and ordering the teriyaki chicken, prawn chorizo alfredo pasta, and a side of fried chicken. The food was outstanding and definitely exceeded my expectations. The teriyaki chicken was perfectly cooked and had just the right amount of seasoning. The prawn chorizo alfredo pasta was delicious and the combination of flavors was a great surprise. The side of fried chicken was crispy and delicious. The service was awesome and definitely added to the overall experience. The chefs at Whale Eatery are very professional, and you can taste the quality and care put into each dish.
